I do alot of scouting so I think what Mr. Hellbird is saying is that there's a right time and a wrong time for small ball and that an offense/team/coach needs to be able to adjust to what the game is dictating. Every game is a little different.

Just and FYI "Fog", coach Bieger was NOT the 3rd base coach last year, at least at any game I had seen. He was either on the bench or at first. So he's not the one that I would think would make that call. I could be wrong but I really don't feel that those calls are on him.

If that's the case then I thank you and apologize for taking it the wrong way. The way it came across was that I should tell the coach what to do because he doesn't know as much as me, and that was never the intent of my post.

 

We have good coaches and I respect them very much, last year the team went in a different direction and went with the small ball philosophy and there seemed times when it was used in wrong situations is all I was saying.

Boone County Rebels lost six starters from last years team. Four of them starting pitchers. The lead off position from last years team (Chase)had fifty five hits. Hard to replace a pure hitter like that. At the shortstop spot (Doug) what a leader on the field, hit .492, 4 HR, 37 RBI's, 741 SLG, 37 WALKS. Very hard to replace. That was some of last years talent. This years team must reload, refocus, and rebound from a season that ended in a first round exit in the districts. Leading the way at the plate and on the mound is (jr) Trey Ganns, a talented 6 foot 2, 220 pound young man with skills of a D-1 player. Low to mid 80's fastball with a nice change up. (jr) Trey Martin will contribute at the plate, he is a solid hitter with power, led team in RBI's during fall ball this past season with a .420 avg. (jr) Darien Huff should come close or beat the record on stolen bases this year(Daniel Lokesak 33). Young man can flat out fly. (so) Cameron Faehr, record 5-1, 2.52 era on the mound last year should continue to be a bright spot in the rotation this year and help at the plate. Led the team in hits during fall ball this past year with a .556 avg. Throw in a senior class led by Nolin Klein (who was the #4 hitter last year before going down with arm surgery) and with some help from a very talented sophomore class the Rebels should be in the running for their third district title in 5 years. Of course a little luck here and a good bounce there will help out along the way to. The Rebels of Boone County will be ready for the challenge.

I definitely think Nolan Klein (BCHS senior) is someone to keep an eye on. Had a severe injury to his left arm last year but this kid is an amazing hitter with an absolute cannon at 3rd. Better not put the ball in his wheelhouse!

For the first time in Cooper's five year history, I believe the Varsity will consist of only Senior's and Junior's. They have seven SR's and about 16-19 JR's for about 16-18 spots. I hear Hathorn, who is a Soph, is pretty good so he would probably be the only one if they did bring him up. I think this year should be Cooper's best to date.

Ryle will be extremely deep this year. Not claiming they are loaded with one stud after another, but there will be a lot of very talented players on this squad. There are (give or take one or two) some 33 juniors/seniors competing for spots this year, which is a larger turnout than I've seen in quite a few years. I look for Hoard and Bellew to be the real deal this year on the mound and there will be a fair number of nice arms filling in behind. A pitcher that could offer some solid innings, but didn't throw last year, is Tyler Mason (lefty), who also happens to be a very solid hitter.

 

All in all, though, I would agree that this is going to be a brutally competitive district this year, probably moreso than any recent year. Totally agree with Clyde that the district seeding games won't have quite as much meaning this year because (unless one of the four teams just doesn't pan out this year for some reason) #4 could very easily upset #1. It's going to be a fun year!

I know Cooper will have a lot of Jr's on JV. there are 17 JR's trying out for varsity but there are only like 4 spots available. They only lost 4 seniors from last years team that was already JR and Sophomore heavy last year.

 

This dirstrict will have 4 teams that can win it, as coop said it really doesn't matter when it comes to seedings, #4 has just as much of a shot as #1 seed in this district has. Should be a great and fun season.
