I guess no one else cares, but let me rant a little. I think it was embarrassing and disrespectful what Coach Miller did tonight. There are players working their rear end off every day in practice who would have loved to get on the floor tonight against Holmes. I know there is at least one senior who did not get to play one second tonight. I think that is terrible. I also think it is bad for team morale and for the program. My guess is every player, starter and sub, for Beechwood walked out of that gym shaking their head at what their coach did tonight. If someone can defend it, please speak up.

 

I just didn't notice anything about playing time. I did wonder big time why they played man to man and even remotely thought they could contain the Holmes guards. The only chance that Beechwood had was to pack it in with a 2-3, make them move the ball and use time, and hope the' dogs have an off shooting night. Holmes basically spread them out and let Bolden do his thing. At times, the Tigers tried running with Holmes. Another head scratcher.

Nussbaum, Shover, maus, and huff got the majority of their buckets in transition. The only points they didn't get in transition was late in the game when huff made three 3's off set plays.

 

Holmes full court pressure honestly isn't that great, they gamble an awful lot and constantly reach. Good teams that can break their press will get easy lay ups.

 

 

Bolden is the real deal best player in the region hands down. Very efficient and makes very good decisions with the ball. His euro step tonight was enough to let me know he is D1 no question. Good to see him really stroking it from three as well.

Booher had his JV on the floor to start the 4th quarter. He played those guys for the first couple minutes of the quarter. Then, as Beechwood left their starters in, Booher went ahead and put most of his starters back in. After a couple minutes of that, Booher called a timeout. When he called that timeout, he gave a look down at Miller wondering what the heck he was doing. My guess is Booher was thinking maybe Miller would put his subs in then but he didn't. Booher went ahead and put his JV guys back in for the rest of the game. Beechwood ended the game with their starting five out there.

 

Booher had coston and Palmer in to start the fourth quarter and bolden came back in with about 5 minutes to play? Not so sure why Booher would be super concerned about who is on the floor for Beechwood when he is up 30 points. If anything it should be his last concern, obviously beechwood can't hang with Holmes so why is it necessary for Booher to care?

Why would Booher be upset? ... because he knows basketball, respects the game and respects the commitment and effort that EVERY player on his team gives and wants to reward his players with playing time. But my post isn't about Booher.

 

How about a senior player (I am not related to him in any way) who has given four years to the program and the coach won't put him into a 25 point blowout game? Please give me one reason why that kid doesn't get playing time in this game. How can Miller look that kid in the eye at the next practice and ask him to give 100%?

I didn't say they didn't score off it, just got the energy going with Holmes. I do undersatnd that when you are down 20-30 you have to get possessions. Holmes gambled much more on he press last night than normal. They don't always full court press. With the teams with good ball handling guards they usually play a lot of holf court trapping types of things, Booher switches it up a lot through the course of those games. Last night they just didn't have to do any more than they did. My point still is the Tigers only chance was to pack it in and hope. As you stated just different talent levels.

They need to push the ball and get transition baskets in order to put up points. The problem with that is Beechwood is not good handling the ball and when you speed the game up you end up with even more turnovers. Still, pushing the ball is the best answer for this team IMO.

I agree Clyde, I have seen Bolden play 5 or 6 times this year, I have yet to see anyone guard him, and the scary thing is that in most of those games he shot the ball pretty darn well. Best player in the region IMO.

Dead on VOR, and not to mention that when you push the tempo players need to be rotated to keep fresh legs....to say the least Miller does not sub in much beyond two players, most games Chase Maus doesnt get one break unless he is in foul trouble.

As for the playing time issue, just plain embarassing, not worried about the sophs that didnt get in the game, but a senior cant get 1 minute? Sorry to say the least, personally I couldnt look the kid in the eye.

I dont know Booher, but it did seem like he looked at Miller, like what are you doing??????

I disagree with playing a pack it in zone and hope Holmes miss outside shots. Yes, Beechwood must force outside jump shots however, Beechwood's strength is not in the half court. If they slow the game down how are they ever going to get an opportunity to score on the other end? Beechwood couldn't run a play last night until Huff got 3 late 3's on Holmes JV team.

 

The thing you have to realize is that whether beechwood plays zone or man Holmes is going to get theirs regardless, they are that much more talented top to bottom. It also didn't help that Holmes played very well last night and shot a high percentage from everywhere including the free throw line.

 

Once Beechwood broke Holmes press they had success getting to the rim, some put backs, and hitting some open jump shots. IMO, that is the best way beechwood can play. They are hard to watch in the half court on offense. Scoring 62 against Holmes is very good for beechwood.

 

All things considered I was pleased by the effort on Beechwood's part. There were several times where They could have put their heads down and quit resulting in a running clock but I don't believe it ever got to that point.

The reason I say that is bc Palmer and Coston started the 4th and played at least 3 or 4 minutes and Bolden re-entered with a little under 5 minutes maybe....regardless if the jv for Holmes or the starters played for Holmes in the 4th quarter the outcome was going to be a 20 point Victory. Therefore that makes me question more why Booher even checked Bolden back in?

This is my first BGP post so I'm going to keep it brief and careful. As I heard it, what upset the Holmes coaches most was that, very late in the game, Nussbaum decked one of the Bulldog freshmen with a hard -- and from Holmes' perspective, illegal -- screen.
