Who is left anyone know?

 

Conner is awaiting the winner of Cooper/Boone to play in the semifinals. I believe Holmes plays NCC on the other side of the bracket in the semis.

The Final Four is:

Boone/Cooper winner vs Conner

Holmes vs SK

 

Holmes beat NCC and then Holmes beat Ryle to advance to Final Four.

I don't know when the Boone/Cooper game is scheduled, but they may just play it as their regular JV game this Friday, Feb 8th at Boone.

Holmes JV beat Conner JV by ten (maybe twelve?) points last night (2/12/13); it was relatively close until fourth period. I know a lot of us thought this was the end of the JV tournament because schools had been using these games at the tail end of the regular season as JV tournament games. In this case, it seems that the Conner JV coach rejected that arrangement and requested an official tournament game, which will be this evening (2/13/13). I assume it's at Holmes but I'm not sure of the time. Also not sure -- not that it's a big deal -- whether Conner asked for the separate game before or after last night's loss.

My understanding was the finals have always been planned for tonight at Cov Cath as a double header with the Freshman Tourney finals.

I assume that Conner beat Boone Monday night (2/11). That would make the title game Holmes vs. Conner so I can see why Holmes said last night was the title game. Most of the JV "Tournament" games are acutally regular season games that the teams agree should be counted as their tournament game. For example, the Boone Cooper JV game last Friday was a regularly scheduled game but since those teams were next up in the tourney bracket they just counted that regular season game as their tourney game. Hence, the confusion about last night's Holmes Conner game. I guess both teams have to agree to a regular season game being counted as the tourney game?

It was a unique situation, but ultimately the decision was to play the final game at CCH tonight at 6 pm. This decision was made well BEFORE the game was played last night. Holmes did win last night by 12, but both teams subbed heavily. I'm not exactly sure what the Holmes' stance on this was, but I know Conner wanted to afford their kids the opportunity to play a "real" championship game on a neutral court in what is usually a neat atmosphere for the kids. CCH always does a first-rate job for both the JV and Freshman championship games, so why would you want to deny kids on either side that opportunity?

Even more clear and very sensible. Not sure why -- or at this point, not even sure if -- Holmes was asking whether last night's game could count towards the tourney after the fact, given the knowledge that CCH handles the event so well. I assume the coaches were all on the same page, so maybe a couple of players misunderstood the situation and got to talking. It happens....

A good game last night and was very close until the end of the 3rd quarter. Conner had gone on a streak and pulled ahead by 6 I believe. Then Holmes went on a streak and slowly pulled ahead to a 10pt lead that Conner just couldn't rally to as the 4th quarter clicked away. As I said, a good game and well played by both teams.

What is very disappointing is the fact that there was no trophy presentation, no MVP, no all tournament team. The buzzer sounded, kids shook hands and walked off the floor like it was a regular game. These kids work hard and it means a lot to them. There should be some recognition for the effort the two teams made to get to the finals.

Not much could match the excitement of the freshman championship, but the JV game was good indeed, and because it was such a good game I resonate to slamdunk's disappointment. Some of these JV players are juniors who may not make their varsity squads as seniors; that means this was their last high school basketball game and it would have been nice for them to go out in a bigger way. Nonetheless, things in general were extremely well run and the organizers deserve mega-props. Maybe this will provide incentive to establish a free-standing JV tournament with the appropriate bells and whistles (and smoke machines), but it's hard to figure when/where those games could be squeezed in at this time of year.

It would take another school to step up and hold the JV tournament. The problem is, Cov. Cath is the only all-male school in the NKY area. All other schools have to split gym time between the boys and girls teams. Not to mention, the JV teams have to work around varsity schedules that vary from school to school. In order to work better (in my opinion), I think the tournament would have to be held on 4 consecutive Sundays which would most likely not sit right with religious folks and coaches to enjoy a breath of fresh air during the season.
