He made it back to play in his junior year and was about 80 percent. He had to try to play catch up this past summer but must D1 schools had already offered. Another common theme is they, (D1) schools, say that they can go to Florida or Texas or Georgia and get players they know can play at the D1 level because they can see them on film against other D1 level players. I have been told that by multiple coaches, they say they can't tell what he will do against D1 level players. They don't want to take a chance but want to bet on a sure thing as possible.

 

That all makes sense. Sometimes it is just luck and getting in good favor with a coach.

I wonder if he would have gotten any better looks or offers if he played at a bigger school against higher competition. Before anyone gets offended, WV is a nice program, but not high level. If he played at a school like a T, ST X, Cooper(good exposure since they advanced far in playoffs)and a few more, I'm betting he would have multiple offers if he was able to compete. Which from the looks of things, he should have been able to.

 

If what I say is true about playing in the premier programs, does that put a thought into the heads of parents and players if they are wanting to play at the next level? Or is it really all about off season exposure at the college camps?

I think a combination of all these facts hurt his efforts but missing his junior summer camps hurt the most. Playing at X or T would have diffidently helped but as far as other local teams I don't think so. He this summer went to several camps West Virginia, Ohio, Western Kentucky, UK and several others and did extremely well. He did a uppers camp in Chicago and never lost a one on one drill. Problem was most of these camps offered the year before so they wait to see if they get everyone they offer.

University of Kentucky makes a preferred walk on offer after a visit yesterday I am told.

Preferred walk on status is nothing to shake a stick at, could definitely be on path to a scholarship if he proves himself. I would take a scholarship offer from a D1AA school (Murray St. EKU, other OVC schools) if offered. UK has been down the last couple years, but did make 5 or 6 consecutive bowls before Joker. It would be a challenge, but from what I've seen of Cole I would be shocked if he didn't earn a scholarship. Good luck!
