Brossart made an early statement putting 28 points on the board in the first quarter for the now 15-3 Mustangs, enroute to a 40-18 halftime advantage.

Alex Trentman scored 20 points to lead the Mustangs (12 in the first quarter), while Justin Saunders put up 18, moving into the 14th place on the all-time Brossart/St. Mary career scoring list.

The Mustangs put 10 players in the scoring column. They advance to meet St. Patrick (59-41 winners over Silver Grove) in Friday night's 6:30pm Upper Bracket semi-finals.

No Bluejacket had double figures. They were led by Austin Shepherd, Austin Allison, and Logan Fryman with 9 each.

Prior to becoming what is now known as Bishop Brossart High School, the high school was named St. Mary High School.

I need a history lesson. At what point did Brossart become a basketball powerhouse? I remember a time when the Mustangs were not known for athletics and more of an emphasis was placed on education, etc... Which coach is responsible for the turnaround??

Congratulations to the Mustangs. I'm hopeful we (Augusta) can get to the finals (we have to play well to have this happen, it's not a certainty) and play well enough to mount a challenge for you guys.

Interesting. Thanks for the info, I did not know that.

BB will win the all A and IMO is on the only team that can challenge Montgomery for the 10th.

I'm tracking what seems to be improving play at Scott, but I think this is pretty accurate for the time being.

Mustang can speak to this better than I but it would appear they started a turnaround from mediocrity in the early '90's under Tom Creamer, which is about the time they challenged the program by moving from NKAC Division III to Division II, thus increasing the competition level and freeing the schedule to add better "out-of-conference" games. (note--NKAC Div. III requires all members to play each team a home & home schedule, add in district play and this leaves little room for elective games against better competition)

This was sustained by coach Bob Seiter, and then BB is generally credited with becoming a serious & consistent NKY contender under Willie Schlarmann, who took the program to the current level. When Willie left to take the Highlands' job, the torch was handed to the very capable hands of Coach Mike Code who has sustained the program, and reached arguably their highest levels in 2005 & 2007 when they finished the seasons ranked #1 in NKY, winning the All A State title in '07.

I was thinking that Montgomery County will be the only team that can challenge Brossart in the 10th. They are definitely the top two teams.

This is news to me. Thanks to you & Mustang for the info. :thumb:

I think I played some baseball at a St. Mary field in younger years. Not 100% sure on that, but it certainly rings a bell.

Brossart's baseball team plays their home games on the field behind St. Mary grade school which is a couple of short blocks away from Brossart.
