Conner/Highlands Predictions

Featured Replies

I know they have other threats, but hypothetically lets say Scott and Schaeffer don't score a point. Who wins? Just discussion...but could Conner survive if their star doesn't produce? I really don't know the answer. I haven't seen them enough.

Great question... If Conner wants to have any chance to win they will need Scott to stay out of foul trouble because if she is on the bench Conner has and will struggle to score.

Meyers is just coming off of an injury and hasn't been starting since her return about a week ago. Regardless, I think Schafer will see several of the Cougars rotating and guarding her.

Take that back to coach maybe you can get on the scouting payroll

My impression, admittedly without seeing HHS play, is that Leah is not very aggressive offensively.

True or false?

Just my opinion, one of her best attributes is seeing the floor, sharing the ball and getting others involved. HOWEVER, I, the fans and I think the coaching staff would like to see her be a little more selfish at the high school level! I think her game is great for college where you are dishing to girls that can all play at that speed, catch the ball and finish. I'm not saying the HHS girls don't have that ability, but I think they are sometimes looking for her to takeover and finish plays and then the ball lands in their hands. Leah is a special athlete, but I do think that HHS could really take it to another level if Leah could look to score a little more. It's tough when you have that mentality and it comes natural to you, but I think she is working on it and if she is able to master it, I would look for HHS to be a very tough "out" of any tournament. She has the ability to takeover any game. When you have to focus on a 6 foot scoring machine, it opens up so much more for the other girls (that can scrore too). Please don't think I'm being critical of Leah. I know there are many that read the board. I love her to death as a player. I think she is an outstanding player and more importantly, an outstanding person. But if she takes the challenge of scoring more, it definitely favors the rest of the team. Just my opinion.

iam glad you two are finally getting along now if we can only get cvg and triplesevens to have a hug or something i love it when people dont take this stuff on here too seriously

Maybe the hug could be the half time show on Saturday! Maybe it will make the evening news.

Here's the thing with this quote. Schaeffer has only had 14 or more in maybe 3 games this year and one of those was against Dixie in a blowout and another in the Ryle blowout. Lets remember that HHS is nine deep. They have had 6 different girls step up and be leading scorers in different games. They also have other, besides those girls that have reached double figures in multiple games. I don't think it has much to do with Schaeffer and Meyers at all. If Meyers is guarding Schaeffer, she will be pulled away from the basket because that's not where Leah plays. That's Daley's area! If leah pulls meyer out, it could be a major issue stopping daley. People know Schaeffer, but Daley has the ability to take over a game. Ask Boone and PRP and many others. Leah plays more of a 3 or shooting 4. They also, like Conner, have multiple 3 point threats. It's hard to double anyone when the right team is on the floor. Should be a fun game to watch.

I have only seen her in 1 HS game at NDA this year. Most of my watching is during AAU. I saw a stat where she was just under 15 last year with 9 rebounds. Looking at the shot chart from the NDA game she had 7 Field Goals 5 from the Block , 2 from just inside the free throw Line. Highlands got the ball to her after timeouts in the paint where she had success. I would not guard her way out on the floor. It just seems odd that a person of her size and strenght does not get more opportunities down low, Especially on the left side. The highlands guards are good. If she posted up more it could alleviate droughts like they had in 2nd qtr at NDA and provide space for their sharp shooters.

That's a great observation. I'm not sure why they don't go down low to her more, but that's really up to the coaches I guess. I'm sure they have their reasons, but you are correct. She can find success down there. On the other note, she can be deadly from about 15ft in too. Last year, it was one of her shots. She has passed it up at times this year. Not sure why, confidence or what, but she really can shoot it. She can actually shoot the 3 pretty, but never does. Trust me, not being hard on her, really admire the tools she has, just wish she'd pull them out of the bag more often. She really has started (over the last couple games) to let it rip more. If it was a confidence issue and that comes back, that's when HHS will be at their best and would be able to compete at a much higher level.

They'd help any team! Going to be a couple of good ones. Thank goodness the Boone schools don't move their kids up!

By the way, the birds have a few 6th graders of their own! One of them plays JV...speaking of moving kids up!

I have watched your younger daughter once. And definetly agree with you! Will not make game tommorrow good luck ladybirds and ladycougars. Can't wait for the post game report on this one. Should make for some great conversation.

Not enough beverages in Hebron to make that happen....

Besides nobody is allowed on the gym floor after it has been cleaned, athletes in gymshoes or non-marking shoes only. :thumb:

I don't need any drinks to give a hug! I'm game.

And by the way, there has still been some great analysis and discussion in this thread in spite of the little spats. Great job you all. I am bummed that I will have to miss the game, however if I was able to go, I would have been very well prepared.

Another thought that no one has mentioned, is that even though these are two of the top teams in the 9th, they both have freshmen that play significant roles. If I am not mistaken there will be 5 freshmen between the two teams that will either start or get pretty good minutes - Hendricks and Gambrel for Conner and Leigh, Adler and Coffey for Highlands. To me, that is impressive, and a very high number of contributing freshmen for teams as good as these. It will be an interesting side story of the game to see what these freshmen are able to do in this game for their teams. There are a couple of them that could very easily end up playing a very big role for helping their team win.
