January 15, 201313 yr Again, no legal expert but I have never thought it was open-ended ie unlimited. What SCOTUS cases are there in this regards? The "Brothern" have limited it before, mostly in 5-4 splits. This is a simple example of trying to limit citizens rights without proper legislative process. An amendment should be required to enact any type of additional limitations on firearms. The fact is that the side that is for gun legislation to be increased knows that you would never have that type of support. They have mostly left it a state issue. Obama will try to make it a national issue, which will fail. I look forward to watching the states that choose to pass this type of legislation reap its benefits with increased violent crime, something that has been proven to happen with gun control time and again.

Are you going to take a stance or have an opinion on whether or not 7 round limit is over the top? You don't have to be a constitutional expert to know what perversions of the law are.

I believe it has been done, but I don't think it is legal. The Supreme Court has disagreed with me through very slim margins.

January 15, 201313 yr Forced registration and confiscation by having to sale things you have? 7 round limit? Why? 7 rounds is what a 1911 holds and guess where Kimber and Remington make their 1911's.... Quite a few of Kimber's 1911s hold 8.
January 15, 201313 yr Does this impact only long guns or handguns as well. Neighbor bought a 9mm this weekend. Its mag capacity is 7 (x 2). No reloading 14 rounds. Of course reload time is all of 2 seconds.

I'm under the impression the 2nd amendment is there so the people can defend themselves with the same weapons that might be used against them by any entity. The 2nd amendment was the least debated when Madison drafted the Bill of Rights. How the tides have turned. It's not a new idea for governments to take away the power of defense from the people. The founders knew this hundreds of years ago and the reason is still there. Why should certain weapons like AKs with extended mags be outlawed?
January 15, 201313 yr Assault weapons -- defined as any rifle with a "military style" feature, such as a bayonet or a telescoping stock -- that are currently owned would be grandfathered and would have to be registered with the state. Magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds and manufactured before 1994, which are currently legal, would have to be turned over to authorities or sold out of state within one year. If a magazine has a capacity between eight and 10, it would have to be retrofitted to only hold seven rounds. So what if I have a magazine manufactured last year? The law says more that 10 rounds AND manufactured before 1994...so a 100 round mag I bought last week would be OK? Point two, I do not like having to register owning a firearm either...Nearly all countries that banned guns started with gun registries.

Registries do absolutely nothing to make anyone safer so what's the point.
