If they make a solid hire there they should be around a while. Mornings are far and away the most important day part, and with nothing on the Death Star but Mike and Mike makes it interesting...

My ample gut tells me we'll hear the same 7 callers on a regular basis and we'll get nothing new. Gamble by himself isn't appealing to me. To be honest, he seemed to be the "mouth" of the Angry Guys ie "loud but uninformed." Isn't that just another Andy Furman? Maybe their costs will be so low that making a profit will be easier but it seems like re-hashed local sports talk to me.

And Tom delivered ratings that Mo and Lance dream of when the Angry's were going strong. Heck they had higher ratings at Super Talk before that blew up because Cumulus saw weakness at WEBN and went for the throat. The morning drive void is a huge deal in the market, and not having anything but Mike and Mike has really hurt 1530 in the 3-6 slot ratings wise. There has been very little growth in afternoon drive once they killed any momentum when they replaced the Angry's with Cutler and eventually Mike and Mike. We shall see soon enough...
December 31, 201213 yr Since I have a home office I don't really listen to much radio in the morning. I'll check it out to see if there is something intriguing about it. I hardly ever listen to Mike and Mike as I can't stand their schtick.
December 31, 201213 yr I tend to agree with you GT as I won't listen to Jim Scott on WLW and Mike in Mike when they are on, only talk about the No Basketball Association which bores the heck out of me, so I tend to listen to my little MP3 with a audio book in it while driving to work. I would agree with Clyde about Tom and I would think Tom would do much better if Skinny (who was the voice of reason) would work with him but Skinny is pretty busy now working for VMA, WKRC and NKy.com. Honestly AM radio in this area, heck even FM radio in this area, leaves a lot to be desired to me at least.

December 31, 201213 yr Mike and Mike is an extension is an extension of ESPN's agenda to push certain stories. I am in my car from 6-7am and the first hour of that show is miserable as they beat a topic into the ground. Sports talk radio is always more interesting when they cover things you care about, UC, X, Red, Bengals, etc. The trick though is to have the proper balance between the host, callers and guests having their say.
December 31, 201213 yr How is the Furman / Hawkins show on 1360 doing? In the AM I listen mostly to Mike and Mike on ESPN1530 but will switch to Furman/Hawkins on 1360 at times. I will choose Gamble and local sports over Furman. I will listen to WLW for 5 minutes at the top of the hour for news/traffic/weather and then move to the sports talk for something entertaining.
December 31, 201213 yr WLW is about 45 minutes of News, traffic, commercials, and weather every hour in the morning so anything that gives me another option is good.
