Tonight up on the “Hill” the Breds and Indians clash in front of a full house, and the Breds on the strength of a 22-6 3rd quarter “shooting clinic” put away the Indians.

It was another BIG night for Breds big man, Jr. Jake Schulte, as he drops in 8 in the 1st quarter, all from point blank range. The guard play of Bueter and Pangallo did a great job of finding guys making cuts to the hoop for the easy finish. So. Drew McDonald did a great job defending Holy Cross big man Tony Campbell as he was held to 2 pts . After one quarter of action it’s the Breds up 14-10.

NewCath: Schulte 8, Bueter, Pangallo, & McDonald 2 each. HC: Campbell 2

The 2nd quarter saw both teams struggle to hit open shots and was a little “sloppy”, but the Breds kept going inside with Schulte , McDonald, & Fr. Ben Weyer to get their only points of the quarter and Campbell hits a 3 and has a dip–in for the Indians. Campbell also had a few blocks in the quarter, two against Bueter on consecutive trips down the floor. At the half it’s the Breds 20-17.

NewCath: Schulte 10, McDonald 4, Bueter, Pangallo, & Weyer 2 each. HC: Campbell 7

In the 3rd quarter the Breds put on a “shooting clinic”. Many were 6 to 10 foot pop-up jumpers just out of the reach of Campbell. Nick Seibert finds his touch and goes for 10. A lot of credit to the Newcath “D” keeping Campbell from getting the ball down low, as the Holy Cross big man only gets a free throw for his final point of the game. Holy Cross Sr. Christian McClendon did the balk of the scoring with some very nice penetrating moves to the basket. Also foul trouble haunted the Indians as Travis Gabbard was called for his 4th at the 5:44 mark in the quarter. The Breds outscore the Indians 22-6 in the frame to take a 42-23 advantage to the 4th quarter.

NewCath: Schulte 12, Seibert 10, McDonald 8, Bueter 6, Pangallo 4, Weyer 2. HC: Campbell 8, 6 blocks.

In the 4th the Breds get their ONLY 3 of the game from Sr. Colin Dupont and both coaches empty their bench’s with under 3:00 to play.

NewCath: Schulte 14, Seibert 11, Bueter 8, McDonald 8, Pangallo 4, Dupont 3, Covington 2, Franzen 2, Weyer 2. HC: C. McClendon 12, Campbell 8, 6 blocks.

NewCath (8-0) 14-06-22-12 54

Holy Cross (3-4) 10-07-06-11 34

It was a clean sweep for the Breds has the JV and Frosh both win, FR 35-16 & JV 47-42

For those wondering if the NewCath student section did anything to counter last years HC cheer……..NOTHING.

Had a nice chat with BaseballNut24 before and after the game, he does a great job with his call of the game, as well as, promoting the Indians. Hope you enjoyed the drink.

LONG day at work and went straight up to the game, I was in need of eats.

Thanks for the updates, LB.

The Newcath players were ready for this game. Very focused/hungry group.

Holy Cross is the worst coached team in the 9th region hands down.At most times Eric has no clue whats going in the game as other coaches are adjusting he just sits there doing the samething as the game gets away.Toinght's game was just an extension of the Scott County game.Same thing that happened at districts against CovCath when Rushsatz made him look like a grade school gym teacher.

He has lost the locker room from the players as they are even questioning what he does. And that is coming straight from the mouths of several players on the team.

Come on Game........ tell us how you really feel?

This article got it wrong. Drew McDonald was the primary defender of Campbell and he did an outstanding job. This NCC team is fun to watch.

McDonald and Schulte are a tough combo to stop. Not a better big man combination in NKY.

Pangallo did a great job running the offense and had very few turn overs.

Seibert is streaking and looked good in the 3rd.

Team effort by the Breds. Campbell is a very nice player however seemed very frustrated tonight.

Great summary LB. Sounds like the Breds locked Campbell up and got hot in the 3rd.

As far as Coach Goetz goes, dude did win an All A State title last yr.

I'm sure its frustrating and maybe the kids are getting antsy but its early, these two should meet again in the All A.

Congratulations on a nice win for the Breds. Good to see they had balanced scoring, a sign of good team work and will make it difficult for teams to prepare for them and beat them.
