There is a similar story in Cincinnati concerning the two stadiums .

Agree on NCAA tourneys, but how can they justify all woman's Bball and volleyball? Too many dates taken away for events that could draw 1'000s.

 

I doubt that the womens bball and volleyball regular games are bumping bigger revenue events. At least I would hope not.

 

The general equation for justifying these smaller events is if they cover the variable cost of holding them there. If they do that and give back anything toward the bonds then it should be a small win. But these are not events that sound like they are creating the traffic to pay the bonds.

You should see an NCAA first round set or regional final every other year at Yum. Lets be honest. The UK contingent in Frankfort went for this because it gives UK the chance to play in-state in the tournament since there is now a non-home venue for them. This should operate like the set-up for NC schools.

I think Lexington will fight to keep the sweet-16. Louisville will have to fight and show it wants it. Though I am a Cardinal I can also see where it is more special for the vast majority of high schoolers to play on the floor at Rupp rather than at Yum. At least for the state-wide and non-Louisville players. If you can not play for Kentucky the next best thing would be to play on the same floor in high school. So I think the there is a lot going against Louisville on this event. At best it would go back to a back and forth arrangement.

Schneider Co. to Open A Bar and Two Restaurants Near Yum Center

 

I'd assume that since Waterfront Plaza is right next door to the Yum Center, it falls within the TIF district. I'm not particularly interested in the restaurants, but another bourbon bar is always welcome. That's becoming a nice little summer's night stroll from Jockey Silks to the Seelbach Bar to the Brown and now a stop at Waterfront Plaza. I'll drink to that.

 

Also perhaps interesting is that Virginia Beach has announced it's not going to finance an arena and is giving up its pursuit of the Kings.

Same here, with Raymond James and Tropicana Field, though the tax is split between 2 counties. In Hillsborough, where I live, we are halfway to the 30 year half percent sales tax to paying off RayJay. I think Tropicana is near the end of it's lean paid by the Pinellas County taxpayers. Of course, now the Rays want a new venue.

If I have to pay more taxes for schools (JCPS) that my children don't go to.....I'll pay more for a building that I enjoy using/having, etc.....

Sounds like Seattle is very close to acquiring the Kings and hoping to have them in Seattle next season as the Supersonics.

Yep. Looks like this NBA deal is on the outs for at least another couple of years. At least until some random team is looking to leave again.

 

Without the option for the time being, hopefully AEG Entertainment and the Arena Authority can come up with a plan that doesn't involve the NBA to try and get dates and revenues up.
