Covington Latin 57 Dayton 52

Featured Replies

The Covington Latin Trojans earn their second victory in a row with undying determination over a spirited die-hard bunch of Greendevils 57-52. In a loudly vocal environment, the Covington Latin faithful turn out in numbers at Dayton High School to support their dream-season seeking Trojans, and were not denied the exciting victory that they came hoping to find. In a game where Latin quickly streaked out taking a 5-0 advantage, Dayton quickly responded, and from that point forward the lead of the game changed hands multiple times with neither team getting much of an edge on the other throughout.

In the 4th quarter with under 40 seconds remaining and the score knotted at 52 after the Greendevils battled back after having been down late by 5 and now with Dayton in possession, Mitchell Blewett sneaks a steal and is immediately fouled sending him to the line where he connected on both attempts. Then with the clock ticking down, spunky Trojan guard Ben Knappmeyer gets pushed out of bounds while leaping for a loose ball at Dayton's end of the floor and connects on both of his double bonus attempts giving breathing room and much needed insurance. Then with very few seconds remaining Blewett grabs a defensive board and is again sent to the line connecting with 1 of 2 of his attempts giving the final score of the game 57-52.

I do not have any stats for the game, but getting in the score book for the Trojans were, Mitchell Blewett (obvious double double), Dorian Clark (with a couple of nice smooth moves to the basket and a cool hand all night long as the Trojan floor general), Ben Knappmeyer, Adam Green (who hit a big important 3 late in the game after having a rough night of missing perhaps 6 or more 3 point attempts in a row), and Patrick Clancy who spent a frustrating night for him many minutes on the bench in foul trouble. Congratulations to the Trojans on their exciting victory and good luck to them tomorrow as they travel with their 2-3 record to take on Silver Grove at 2:00 who recently had an impressive 20 point victory over Williamstown. Go Trojans!!!

:dancingpa

Just an added note: The Lady Trojans won their game by 5 making it a victorious night all around for the Covington Latin faithful!

When was the last time Cov Latin won two games in a row over 9th region opponents?

B-ball, I give you big ups for keeping us updated on Latin. This is a first on BGP.

One favor to ask. Can you break your report into paragraphs. Many people, me included, struggle reading one massive paragraph. Not sure why the human brain has a problem with it but....

Keep up the good reporting.

I'm glad you dig the Latin updates Clyde! I just want to make sure that their day in the sun doesn't go unnoticed. We all know that it might be a long wait for this kind of success to happen again. Also... your wish is my command... I edited my post to break it up into paragraphs a little. You're right... is does read better that way...

That is a very good question and I wish that I knew who I could ask to find out. My best guess might be when David Justice was playing perhaps??? He graduated back in 1982...

Congrats to Cov Latin!

I found the answer. They beat Heritage on Jan 25 then again on Jan 29 of 2011. That's going back to 1997 per Khsaa.org. Congrats to the Trojans.

B-Ball-fan, I really enjoy your write-ups. I feel like I was there watching the game!

Nice find! That's when Mitchell Blewett was a Sophomore. He was lighting it up then too... and very very young...

Thanks Hoops... I'm glad you dug it! It was a good old Kentucky small school Friday night environment to be in tonight! I sorta live for that kind of stuff.

Glad to see the Trojans have some happiness.

Continued success!!!!

What year should Mitchell Blewitt really be? I'm asking because I'm told most Latin students are 1 or 2 years ahead of their class, as based on age.

It was posted here on BGP on 2-1-2012 by 'cammatch' that Mitchell was 15. He's either 16 now or close to it.
