December 11, 201213 yr Anything could happen but with both UL and UK being in better conferences and having similar coaches I don't see any going to WKU right off.
December 11, 201213 yr Author Anything could happen but with both UL and UK being in better conferences and having similar coaches I don't see any going to WKU right off. The whole anything can happen is what I was thinking. I know they are in a much lesser conference, but I would also think that the opportunity to play for one of the biggest names in college football would make some think "hmmm", also. Especially if you are on the offensive side of things.
December 11, 201213 yr What parent could trust that Petrino was going to take care of their kid. The guy is always looking for bigger better..
December 11, 201213 yr What parent could trust that Petrino was going to take care of their kid. The guy is always looking for bigger better.. With all due respect any parent of any football player that thinks any D1 college football coach is going to "take care of their kid" is living in LaLa land. Those days are long gone. Kids are a commodity to college coaches. Sent from my Samsung Stratosphere using Forum Runner

He has shown his a$$ way too many times for my taste..
December 11, 201213 yr So you would let your kid play for Petrino? He has shown his a$$ way too many times for my taste.. He's no worse then about 90% of other college head coaches. And yes if he recruited my kid and my kid wanted to I would let him play for Petrino. Sent from my Samsung Stratosphere using Forum Runner

I know they are in a much lesser conference, but I would also think that the opportunity to play for one of the biggest names in college football would make some think "hmmm", also. Especially if you are on the offensive side of things. UL has a pretty good offense, and now UK has Neal Brown, so I would say that Petrino having his offense has a selling point is a moot point. Plus he had the athletes at Arkansas to use that offense, it's an unknown whether it'll work at WKU or not. Right now I see him sitting in third because of these reasons: he's been out over a year, it's a lesser conference, may have trouble right off the bat with recruiting or putting a quality staff together that wants to work with him.
December 11, 201213 yr He won't land the James Quick's of the state but he will land the guys that UK and UL think of as backup guys.
December 11, 201213 yr He won't land the James Quick's of the state but he will land the guys that UK and UL think of as backup guys. This. The Antonio Andrews and Ace Wales of the state are never walking or grey shirting while Petrino is in Bowling Green. Strong and Stoops better be sure on their evaluation of local talent.

December 11, 201213 yr Author What parent could trust that Petrino was going to take care of their kid. The guy is always looking for bigger better.. That could be said for many college coaches. There isn't a college coach out there that isn't for hire.

See....the lesser conference is a reson why I think he's in a better position. Recruiting won't be a problem. Fact of the matter is, the UK loss to WKU this year wasn't lost in terms in play calling.....WKU had players just as good as UK, it showed. I couldnt tell which one was more evident, 1) WKU had SEC looking kids or 2) UK had Sun Belt looking kids (granted, UK's youth had a lot to do with that, as well). I see no reason why that trend won't continue for WKU. Will Stoops be able to get talent from Florida, still? Sure, but it wont be the guys that have FSU, Florida and Miami calling their name (he might steal one or two here or there who are legit recruits for those guys, but not many). Those will be the same type of kids that WKU will be getting. Often times in UK's defense, I hear Cat fans with blinders on talking about how, "Well, we are UK and we play in the SEC. Kids want to play in the best conference."......really? Is that the case for UK basketball? I don't hear that defense for why kids want to play round ball for Cal. I think it's pretty safe to say that "Playing in the SEC" is the last reason for UK basketball commits. Point is, who cares what conference you are playing in if you are getting beat all the time. Fact is, winning is what recruits. Big name coaches with proven records recruit. Universties who are constantly paying back the monster that feeds them (football in this case), recruits If having the chance to play in the best conference in America is as big of a sale as many make it out to be, then why in the world isn't DePaul a better basketball program?
