doubledeuce Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I always point to NKY area, there are only three high schools in all of NKY that dont have open enrollment just like the private schools allow, all are in Boone County. If you attend a public school out of your district, usually through reciprocal agreements, the state money you would recieve to attend your home district district is giving to the school you are now enrolling in. The parents are then responsible for the amount above the state funding the new district requires for attending. That certainly seems to me that would or should be considered financial aid.The state does not allow,by law,to attend the private school of your choice and have your state funding money applied to tuition.

cshs81 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 yes Not true. You cannot live in Newport and choose to go to a Kenton County school. A friend of my wife told me that she was told her daughter who moved to Boone County to live with her instead of her dad could NOT go to Campbell County High School.
doubledeuce Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 Here is a list of the student who live in Boone County School District but attend school in a different district. Beechwood Independent 12 Bellevue Independent 1 Covington Independent 4 Dayton Independent 5 Erlanger-Elsmere Independent 64 Ft.Thomas Independent 1 Gallatin County 5 Grant County 6 Kenton County 49 Ludlow Independent 13 Owen County 1 Walton-Verona 46 total 207 As of 1-4-06 source: Boone County Board of Education,e-board meetings on 1-12-2006/ under non resident contracts

Also, I'm not sure Boone Co. Schools has the size to take kids from outside of their district. According to some people, they won't with the new school either.
doubledeuce Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 Bigzig does this mean Ludlow has an unfair advantage or are they recruiting these students from Boone County.j/k :jump:
cshs81 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Kenton County 49 Interesting. I spoke to some at the Kenton County Central Office about this and they said they must be a resident of the county. Guess they were wrong.
doubledeuce Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 Just spoke with a secretary at Newport High School said she was almost certain they do allow out of district students. She gave me a number to call,it was to the Newport Welcome Center no one answered the phone so I left A message.

Boone doesn't allow students living in Boone to attend other schools in Boone, but their own local neighborhood school, but if you work for the Board of Education then your child/children can go to any school they want in Boone. I just wonder if the KEA will raise a stink if their member kids can't play sports in High School because they didn't go to one of the feeder shcools, but want to go to the high school where Mom/Dad work?
Tough as Nails Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 My understanding of the process was that the school that you should be going to must release the funds to the school that you choose to go to. Otherwise you would have to pay to go to the school. Sometimes there are circumstances where it makes sense for a student to continue at a school despite moving. One student I knew of lost her dad and her mom lived in another county. Her aunt adopted her but she lived in another school district. The girl was half way through her junior year. It made sense for her to finish out her school years at the school she had attended her whole life.

We have long had a pipeline into the Boone Cty District and were hoping nobody would catch on..In reality most of these kids are of Ludlow School employees and some are kids who have attended Ludlow while living here and chose to continue at Ludlow even after their families moved to Boone Cty..
