Belfry 35 Bourbon County 10

Featured Replies

Pirates physically dominate the Colonels and shut down their explosive offense. Kentayvous Hopkins illustrious career comes to an end with less than 20 yards rushing.

Pirates amass over 300 rush yards.

I've been thinking for a while that this is Belfry's year. Impressive run by the Colonels but they never saw a squad like the Pirates this year.

Congrats to both teams!

Check my prediction on the prediction thread.

Great run for the Colonels this season. Belfry was just too tough.

Belfry really forced their will on Bourbon Co tonight. This game was won in the trenches, where the Pirates were clearly the better team on both the offensive and defensive lines. Belfry had a lot of 2nd and 2 or 2nd and 3 to go tonight and when you are doing that running Belfry's offense, you are going to go home happy. Defensively, Belfry had a great game plan and executed it well. They completely took away the run, limiting Hopkins to 16 yds rushing and they only gave up a team total of 176 total offense to Bourbon. They also did not allow the home run, covering Bourbon's two wideouts very tightly and picking off a couple of passes.

Bourbon took what they were giving them, completing some underneath passes and Pope scrambling for yardage when everyone was covered on several plays. They put together two good drives, pulling to within 14-10 before Belfry finally pulled ahead in the 2nd half.

Kudos to gchs-uk9 and his dad who made the long drive tonight from Lancaster to watch this game. I enjoyed talking with them again and I look forward to seeing them again next week in Bowling Green. Hope they make it home safely. Always a pleasure guys.

Congrats to Bourbon County on an outstanding season! I really enjoyed following their progress! :thumb:

Congrats also to Belfry! I'm excited to see how they'll fare against Central. Also very happy for my friend 2C & his beautiful avatar. :thumb::lol:

I thank you Randy and my avatar thanks you. :D

Unfortunately for Bourbon they never really could get Hopkins the ball in open field where he could do what he does best. He got the ball on zone read, handoffs and sweeps but Belfry's defense never allowed him to get into space. I would have liked to have seen him on the receiving end of a screen pass or some other open field situation where we could have seen him in his element. Don't get me wrong, as a Belfry fan I was tickled pink, but as a football fan I thought the Pirate D cheated us out of show.

I want to give a shout out to Bourbon's fans. They were about 800 strong and very loud and supportive. Belfry's crowd was big too and really into the game. It made for a great atmosphere between two really passionate groups of fans. It was the way it should be for a deep playoff game.

Thanks, 2C. We had a great time and CAM Stadium is the nicest facility that we have been to (and we've been to a lot of them). We made it home by around 1:30, which wasn't too bad.

Also, to the Belfry folks, just wanted to let you know that the Garrard County football team's Facebook page (ran by a parent) has posted scores of Belfry games just about every week this season. In fact they were almost live-posting this past week. They usually mention "their friends from the east" or "Pike County" or "Belfry" and always speak highly of you guys. The impression your team and school made at Garrard County last year didn't go unrecognized and you have lots of fans in central Kentucky who will be rooting hard for you in Bowling Green this weekend.

That is awesome GCHS.

Garrard has a very bright future with Scenters IMO. I think he is a heck of a coach and once he gets his feeder system functioning like a machine and cycling in classes of players Ithink the Golden Lions have a strong chance of being a fixture in the thick of 3A Football.
