Same report ESPN ran a few months ago. Was propaganda then and is no different now.

 

How people can't see what is going on with ESPiN trying to eliminate the Big East is staggering...

I get they would still be part of the vaunted "group of five", but it just seems at some point they may want to address the geographical concerns. I know dissolvement is far-fetched, but at least have some kind of meeting of the minds to hash out who needs to be where when all the chips fall. And maybe those meetings do exist but I just envision it as a lot of back-door dealings and back-stabbing.

Kind of like what the ACC has done to the Big East for close to a decade in an attempt to kill off its competition???

GT and I disagree on the issue of ESPN's involvement.

 

I don't care who is driving it. ESPN is looking out for themselves as a business. It's how they stay IN business. Their job is to draw eyeballs.

 

No college president is being dragged against their will by ESPN. They all are facing revenue problems and ESPN (or Fox or....) is offering a way to help that problem.

 

There are a lot of people/entities that can be blamed if you're looking to blame someone but ESPN isn't on my list.

 

It's like blaming Hostess for me eating too many Twinkies.

SDSU AD said yesterday none of the three schools have any plans outside of joining the Big East next year and have not contacted the MWC.

 

Ever since the Big East made it clear they were going to move outside the exclusive ESPiN umbrella with their new TV deal the smear campaign has been in full swing. The network orchestrated Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC and have been the driving force behind killing the league to prevent NBC and/ or Fox from getting the inventory...

Here is where you are dead wrong. If the league held together as it was they would have landed a deal just as lucrative, if not bigger than the ACC deal with ESPN.

And where do we start on the Pitt president leading the charge to turn down the original billion dollar deal from ESPN less than a year before bolting to the ACC???

It's not ideal - just like local radio.

 

However, it's like blaming Best Buy or Wal-Mart for knocking out the mom-and-pops. WE did it. WE went there for better deals and selection. The "WE" in football is "US" and the school presidents.

 

If "we" are so bothered by it we wouldn't watch ESPN. We're not so bothered by it. We watch ESPN. ESPN has the leverage. That's life.
