November 19, 201213 yr In the long run, in my opinion, it will destroy the insurance industry, except for the biggest insurance company in the US, our own Federal Govt. And the government was the biggest insurance company before Obamacare. They provided 47% of the coverage before this legislation. Considering that and how costs have been spiraling upward before Obamacare, why not try something different. Maybe it will help control both heathcare costs and government spending in a huge area of spending before Obamacare.

You are basically saying that with the Govt providing 47% coverage, that did not help control the upwardness of costs and spending, but 100% will reduce costs and coverage? You do realize that the ONLY way costs/spending will ever be reduced will be to deny coverage in the future, right? The so called "death panels"?
November 19, 201213 yr Based on?Because Govt will ride in and "save everyone" from the "evil" insurance industry with a single payer system eventually. If you think that this legislation is about insuring the uninsured, I still have some oceanfront property here in Kentucky for a real good price. You seem to analyze things a real well. I am surprised this is getting passed you.

There is no doubt spending and costs are reduced if the goverment has 100% of the coverage, right? If you have a monopoly you get to set the prices. But this isn't a monopoly. This isn't 100% government health care. I may have missed it, but are any health insurance companies closing? If this is 100% government health care, we don't need health insurance companies any more do we? As for denying coverage, seriously? Do you think in the US that could happen? Part of the problem right now is we give people with no insurance all the health care they need. They pay nothing and get taken care of just like those of us paying for coverage. Don't think the cost of these non payers isn't part of what you are paying in insurance premiums right now. Don't buy into the bull and scare info that gets thrown out there. I am sure there are many problems that will arise as Obamacare is implemented but the previous system was failing so I am all for trying a new approach.

I do appreciate the compliment though.

The postal service comes to mind.

Surely you understand my Jim Schue-like skepticism?

I prefer to hold out hope that they may get something right somewhere along the way. They do ok defending the country so there is one thing the government is pretty good at.

November 19, 201213 yr I guess that although I am an optimist at heart, when it comes to a massive, bloated, federal government, I have little faith. I guess we should not put our faith in man anyways.

When has that EVER happened in a government run program?
November 19, 201213 yr On a side note (I think). Wouldn't it be great if so many people were being treated under their healthcare plans that the need for charities would actually be reduced?
