Who wins & why?

Bourbon moves the ball, gets some big plays.

 

Pirates are too stout up front, too experienced, and too much of a step up in quality to beat on their homefield.

I have to go with the experience and talent of my Pirates. Bourbon is athletic and quick, with pretty good size, and they have the personnel to upset Belfry, but I think Belfry would have to do things to hurt themselves for that to happen. If Bourbon plays that 4-3 they have been playing, I think Belfry moves the ball well against them. Belfry blocks an even front much better than an odd front from what I have seen over the years.

 

Defensively it will be interesting to see how Belfry contends with Mr Hopkins. Teams like Bourbon that spread you out but favor the run have given Belfry some fits over the years.

Can anyone who has seen Bourbon play give us a little report on what to expect? We know about Tay Hopkins but not much about everyone else.

 

Are the run dependent? What formations do they favor? Who are the other playmakers? Etc.

The regular season Garrard game and the Paris game are on there to watch.

Thanks ATL, I've seen some of that but I was hoping to hear from somebody more familiar with Bourbon who has seen them in person.

 

Plus I was trying to spur some conversation.

Personally I am hoping GCHS gives us a full breakdown of Bourbon position by position, individual strengths and weaknesses, and playcalling tendencies since he has seen them twice this season

Bourbon won on the road 51-8.

Belfry won at home 46-14.

I wish we had a little more common ground for comparison. Not much you can take away from Harrison Co, each team blew them out, but it was 10 and 13 weeks ago.

The No. 1 Belfry Pirates will be looking to get back to the state title game for the third straight year, but first they will have to get past the Bourbon County Colonels.

 

After a win Friday night over the No. 6 Breathitt County Bobcats, 41-20, the Pirates were back on the practice field Monday in preparation for their semifinal round game with an undefeated Colonels team.

 

"Well, they are very good. Like you said, they are undefeated. They've got all kinds of skill, all kinds of athletes out there. They have five or six guys who can score from anywhere on the field when they touch the ball, they can take it to the house," Pirates head coach Philip Haywood said. "So, that is what we expect, a lot of speed, a lot of talent. They can run, they can throw. They are just very talented at almost every position. They are very fundamental, well coached, they do things well. They put a bunch of points on the board every Friday night, so we are going to have to play very well defensively." - Coach Philip Haywood
