What Do You Think Of This Coaching Decision?

If it was an agreed upon deal as is suggested here, wouldn't Breathitt show their hand defensively as to how they might want to adjust? I don't doubt any of this, but there are holes in both sides of the argument. Looks like Belfry must've paid close attention to what the saw on that film...

Yes, but I am only really concerned with my side of the argument.

I had a basketball coach tell me one time, when they were getting ready to play an up-tempo team (such as themselves) in the district, that she never considered "slowing it down" (even though they were big underdogs, and had already lost to this other team during the regular season)...because playing up-tempo is what her team did best. And that's all she could ask them to do, was play their best, and let the chips fall where they may. At first I thought she was crazy, because she hadn't "learned" anything from before. But, now, I understand it. You don't invest all that time and energy into a playing style/philosophy during the pre-season and regular season, just to chuck it away for a week's worth of practice and preparation just hoping you can catch the other team off-guard. As the saying goes...dance with the one that brought you.

It would have been one thing to put in a play or two for short yardage situations, just to add to the opponents' confusion (because of the switch)...but, to play the entire game that way...doesn't make any sense to me.

Simply put, it is time for Chapman to load up his caravan and head back the opposite way on the Mountain Parkway and stay there.

From my perspective, Chapman has been a failed hire.

- No District Titles

- No Regional Titles, only one appearance in a Regional Final

- No wins vs. Breathitt County (never has even been competitive)

- No wins vs. Belfry (only one game was truly considered "close")

- KHSAA sanctions

- One of the worst brawls in recent years

If Pike Central wanted to lose every meaningful game and only make it beyond the 2nd Round one time they could have hired any number of coaches and had the same results without the KHSAA sanctions.

I would like to give the benefit of the doubt that PC was only trying to throw a wrinkle to help their chances, but going off Chapman's history of being a horrible sportsman, his prevalent disdain/envy for the Belfry program, and his deep ties with the Breathitt program... it would be naive to think anything aside from the fact he was just trying to give his ole buddy a leg up to try and beat big ole bad Belfry. There are far simpler offenses to try and install in one week besides the flexbone the way Belfry runs it.

I have absolutely no dog in this fight. I don't know any of the players, coaches or teams. From what you have posted I think there is something stinky in the diaper. Unfortunatley, you will never know who ask who to do what and when.

It won't happen, but it would be hilarious if Belfry came out in a totally different offense... even if for one series. Ha ha ha.

Wasn't their a rumor going around before this season started that Chapman was out and going back to Breathitt but Breathitt didn't have any room on their staff for him?

That video was the last 1:30 of the game and PCC looks to be running out the clock with straight dives. As I said in the other thread where it was posted, Pike Central definitely was NOT running Belfry's offense at this point in the game. It was reported earlier to me that PCC ran Belfry's offense the entire night, and obviously that wasn't the whole truth.

I don't know at what point they abandoned the offense, but we know now that it was prior to this. If I had a film of the entire game I'd look it up, but I don't. Does anyone know?

I know one thing...a coach just doesn't go to the option as a change of pace offense or go to the option that late in the season...if he is any kind of quality coach. If I was a betting man I would think that is what exactly happened. I hope that I am wrong...but I doubt I am.
