I voted for it , I thought that it was a small price to pay for a 1st class library system .

The new library would cost $1,000,000 a year to Campbell County residents. Only people south of Alexandria would use the new library. Library usage is down around 20%, take out movie and game rentals, it's down way more than that. The internet, Ipads, Kindles, ect. where you can get books on line have had a huge impact on libraries.

 

Do you know where that 20% figure came from. Is it books checked out or what? I've heard that figure from alot of people on the issue but my experience is I go to the library (Cold Spring branch) a couple of times a week after work in the evenings. It's always packed with every computer being used, people browsing books, movies, games, etc. To me usage seems way up.

Fine, then they can take up donations or let Southern Campbell County residents be taxed for it. I wouldn't expect them to pay for one being built in Northern Campbell County.

Who paid for the ones currently in Northern CC? I highly doubt Southern CC people were exempt from the funds used to build those.

They already have helped pay for 3 of them but I guess that is ok that you can be at 3 different branches within a 10 minute drive and they can't be to any even though they've always paid the existing tax. That's short sighted.

Sorry, but with Obama back in (and I was pretty sure he'd be re-elected) I'm sure I'll see enough taxes increased. I wasn't about to vote for more. Also, I don't think those that live in Southern Campbell County should have had to pay for libraries in Northern Campbell County. Short sighted or not, I'm glad it failed. Odd how they're still building it though, apparently our tax money wasn't needed.

They may have to close an existing branch to pay for it. Maybe it'll be Ft. Thomas since they already have a couple of close branches and if they want to keep it then they can take up a collection.

OK by me, I'll drive to the next closest one. Certainly wouldn't be offended in the least. If they do want to keep it and take up a collection, that works as well.

The fact remains that it will be built. So what's the beef. We will not have an added tax. I don't see that as a negative.
