There is quite a bit riding on this game for Conner, not so much for CCH. So emotion will be a huge part of Conner's success. It is also Senior night for the Cougars. Many things are working in Conner's favor this week. Conner will come ready to play Friday night. Many key players returning for Conner this week. Add that to the return of Jessie Mckeehan, who has been out since game 1, Conner will be ready. I wouldn't be surprised to see a shootout in Hebron, and Conner to come out on top. We may see another game winning drive in the 4th, or an overtime affair. Should be a good game, regardless of the outcome.

Conner needs to control the clock offensively. The less time Bir is on the field the better their chances are of winning.

I was talking to someone yesterday who wondered how Dave Wirth would approach the game. Would he rest some players? Would he play it like a regular game? Does he owe it to other coaches to play to win?

 

My feeling is this. Dave Wirth owes one team - the Colonels. If he thinks it is best to rest players then he should rest them and not worry about what other coaches might think.

CovCath due to the KHSAA scheduling of District opponents, hasn't had a single starter play more than a half, to a little over a half of a game, since the HHS game!

 

The PC game 70-0, bye week, then HC 61-0 and then Holmes 49-7 when CovCath pulled their starters. So IMHO you will see the CovCath starters playing the entire game, as they need the playing time to get ready for the playoffs.

 

BTW you can talk all you want about the CovCath schedule but Conner has played no one near the level of HHS or La Salle, not even close.

 

RE, the earlier question asking which defense is better, Cooper or CCH is a legit question no one has answered. I haven't seen CCH at all so I don't know but Conner was so fired up against Cooper that I don't think they have come close to that defensive effort in any other game. Emotion plays a lot into some match-ups.

 

I would have to say CCH has the better defense, and this coming from a Cooper fan. Just going by points allowed, CCH wins that stat battle so I'd go with CCH. IT would be fun to watch both teams play though because when Cooper's playing good defense they are very very tough. The only first down given up on the starters Friday night was due to a penalty in the Cooper/Grant game and they've had similar outings this year where only a couple first downs given up in an entire game, but you also have to look at the competition in some of those games.

I think we can throw out the common opponent stuff for this one. Like posted above there is quite a bit riding on this one for the cougars.. I think they will "bring the juice" as Urban Meyer would say this Friday night. They have to win to get the 1 seed, plus it's senior night. They will come fired up and ready. Emotion and attitude is a huge factor in high school football.

That was Cooper's worst defensive game this year. If I wanted to talk about excuses I would of talked about Coopers offense, but I didn't. There was no excuse why Cooper lost imo, they were outplayed that game plain and simple.

TOG, that is my thinking as well and what I told the person who I was talking to.

 

I'm not trying to see who has played the tougher schedule. Neither has played a tough schedule and much of that is through no fault of their own. I said that in response to someone saying one team had not played a tough schedule. Neither did. I would argue CCH got worse playing the last 3 weeks - again though no fault of their own.
