How does Highlands measure its success?

Featured Replies

I have a question: How does Highlands measure success? Is the main goal winning state titles, or winning games, or beating archrival CovCath, or beating high-quality opponents? Has the change from four classes to a perceived "watered down" six classes in football altered the way Highlands measures its success?

Certainly not in pre-season scrimmages. :sssh:

Sorry for the jab.

Seriously though I would think that most important are the state championship banners, though once you have a good deal of them beating the regional schools like Elder is a nice feather in the cap.

I think the #1 measurement is to win a State Championship...I believe anything less is seen as a disappointment..

My guess is that JB is wondering if there are some other important measures since winning the state has become relatively easy. Interesting question.

The consistency that it's ENTIRE (grade school thru high school) program builds year in an year out and the success that they achieve. In many ways it prepares them for their live's after football, but this last comment could be said for many programs.

Great question. Depends on what your ultimate goal is. The state title is pretty easy...so to speak.

Highlands has as good of a football program as you can have and I agree the only measurement for the Birds is we either did or did not win the state championship.

I think the priority of goals are:

1. State championship

2. Beat CovCath

3. Beat quality opponents (Elder, etc.)

I think they put beating Cov Cath over winning a state title because they know they have to win that game before they can win state.

I think that winning the State Championship is the primary goal. If they have won that, odds are they have beaten Covington Catholic.

Beat CCH, undefeated, state title, national title. Close the thread.
