When was the last time these 2 were in the finals? Estill Co. won the 10th last year and they are in the 14th now. Clark and Montgomery are usually in the mix as well. Throw in Nicholas and Bourbon also

Im not counting Mason out of anything. I asked a question and answered a question. Mason has good team but since you keep quoting me I just cant help but post this little bit of info. Mason now has a record of 4 wins and 4 losses with 2 wins coming against Bath Co. and West Union, Ohio. The other 2 wins came against St. Patrick in 15 to 0 routs. They dont have a win against any of the top teams in the 10th region and if they dont start beating some these better teams they will play 1 and out in the region tourney, providing the make it. Oh but they have a weak district so I believe they will get to region.

Estill County should win the 14th pretty easily. They won the 10th region last year, and made it to the Final Four of the state tournament. I heard they have most of their team back except for Hounchell, who decided to concentrate on golf this spring.

In the 8th, I'd say that the top 2 teams would come out of the 30th district. Anderson Co and Shelby Co. are probably the top 2 teams. Behind them would be Grant Co. and Oldham Co. Henry Co is rated pretty high in the region which I don't understand. They lost their entire team last year. Anyone know anything about them?

After that, maybe Lincoln and Boyle. I don't know about W. and E. Jessamine - what kind of programs do they have?

 

In the 13th, despite significant graduation losses, I figure North Laurel and South Laurel to be tops in the region, with Middlesboro, Corbin, Whitley Co. and maybe Williamsburg and Bell Co. after that.

 

Both South and North have their top pitchers back in Alsip and Sears. Kayla Baker is not playing this season. Her father had fallen on ill health a few months back, causing her to sit out basketball -- I suspect this is why she also is doing so in softball.

 

Both will be solid on defense, but hitting might be a bit behind the pitching/defense. Many newcomers in key spots, but they are system players and fundamentally sound.

 

The scary part is that the North and South feeder programs are just getting better every year as evidenced by their winning the Junior League state title (NL) , the Minor league state title (NL), and the state runner up in the Little league state tourney (SL) in 2005. They will continue to bring solid ballplayers into their programs for many years to come. In fact, a softball parent I talked to recently has been watching these younger girls and said that there is probably more talent coming up in the future 6-8 years than he has ever seen, especially at the plate an on defense. There are some more great pitchers, but a TON of great hitters, and many with power. :thumb: Jimmy Durham and Larry & Kay Smith have to love this!

Now I can count Mason Co. out of the 10th region. They never beat an upper tier team all year in the 10th. I wonder how it would have played out if McKay hadnt resigned?

The softball Districts are a little out of whack. How can teams like Lynn Camp and Knox Central get to the region tournment when a team like Whitley can't. The 51st district is so week compared to the 50th. It doesn't seem right that one of the weak 51st teams is going to be able to win a district every year while teams in the 50th are going to have to really compete to win a district title and get to the region. The first region games with KNox and Lynn Camp were just sad. (No offense to the coaches or players for these teams, just stating what I see )
