I think Congleton has stepped up. He is becoming an all-around good player. What I saw of the game he did pretty good.

 

He is the most consistant player on that team for sure. Nice kid too.

I never expected them to get beat this bad...what is happeneing between smith and neeley? Anyone know? Are they not wanting to play together or what?

I know at Lee there was tension between the two it seemed.

They need to mesh someway for Owsley to be successul.

I think the whole Owsley team needs to mesh. They need some energy and more will. Get the fans into the game more. Get on runs, block shots, make 3 points the old fashioned way. Everyone needs to play a role on the team. The last time I checked it was a team sport. Not just 1 or 2 people.

Problem is, Owsley has 3 pretty good players, but the rest are just learning the game. Beside Neeley, Smith and Congleton, Owsley has no other players ready to play Varsity ball. They will be in the future, but right now they struggle at that level.

Just took a look at the Owls schedule, and it looks to be tough for them. They had better be meshing soon, or it could be really ugly from here on in. I saw them at Lee, and I really do think their is potential there, Neeley and Smith can carry a team if they get together. The danger is that when they realize that getting Smith back is not going to solve everything that they pack it in. They need to keep fighting. I hope they get some wins down the stretch and I think they can, but they have to keep their heads up.

Yes they need to start getting their whole team involved because playing like this will get them no where come tournament time.

Good Win for Estill

I dont' like the offense that owsley uses, it looks as if they are hoping the defense "goes to sleep". If they don't the Owls offense comes to a screaching halt! I would like to see them press more and take the game right at their opponent. I hate to see these boys continue to loose, because it is hard on their mental toughness. I can't wait until the hoop season is over. :banana:

This is very true. Two, and sometimes three, of the kids who have been starting for most of the year for Owsley County didn't even play basketball last year. Josh Reed, Dustin Wilson, Cameron Mainous, Kevin Riley, Jarrod Bowling (all of who saw action last night) didn't even go out for basketball in 2004-05. Plus Robert Smith has been out since January. And I think Daniel Neeley's injuries are bothering him much more than many think. He's actually has 4 different injuries that he's trying to fight through, and it hasn't been easy on him. I mean, the last time Owsley played Estill County Neeley scored 38 points. He's also had several other games in the upper 30's. One doesn't go from 38 points to 6 unless something isn't right. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm making excuses, but this young man has hurts right now all the way from his hands to his feet, and it has to be throwing his shot and game off to a certain degree.

I didn't see the Estill County game, but I'd imagine that Neeley's injuries would have to be impacting his ability to play. I don't think of that as an excuse, just more of a fact. I do think though that Owsley has a bright future. Sometimes there's no other remedy than time and patience, and while during a tough season patience isn't something that comes easy, it is definately worth it to see it all pay off in the end and I think even next year the Owls will definately be a force. That doesn't take away from the hard work and effort these young men are putting in this year and in no way means that it is impossible for them to come around this year. Just my two cents.
