Boone is not "at least 3TDs better than Ryle". Boone is underachieving, quite simply.

 

Adding to this, I believe Boone had worlds more talent on the field than Ryle did and in short I agree with you, Boone is underachieving.

Random thoughts:

 

The good news for Boone is several alum along with current members of the Boone County choir did a very nice job signing the National Anthem.

The french fries were seasoned very well.

The Boone band did a great rendition of Call Me Maybe at halftime.

And finally Ingolia nailed about a 60 yard punt that was a college D1 level punt.

 

Ryle was snappy. Nothing great but snappy.

Ryle's OL looked pretty good but beyond that Ryle is tiny.

Ryle had a very poor fan turn out.

Ryle ran the ball pretty well but 6A teams that cannot throw the ball have ZERO chance of winning a state title.

NKY 6A football is really down.

 

Davis is healthy and I understand he will probably be back next week for the Raiders.

 

Coach Owen Hauck was at the game and it was announced before the game that he coached both Coach Rick Thompson (Highlands) and Coach Bryson Warner (Boone) in high school. What they didn't announce is Coach Hauck actually called the offensive plays for both teams last night. Hard to believe but true...

 

Why are these schools so bad so fast? Especially Ryle. They were in the state championship game just a couple of years ago.

Ryle definitely has the ambition and drive to succeed. You can see it in their youth program and in their developmental levels. I believe they are still adjusting to the graduation of Travis Elliot. You can see them developing a passing offense at the freshman level. I expect their freshmen to win the freshmen championship, and it will not be close (Sorry BW!). This is just one year where the talent pool at the varsity level is dry.

 

With Boone, I believe the issues are more systemic. For a team that has talent like Diaw, Moss Marshall and Boston (Now out for the year). it is incomprehensible that this team could be shut out. As others have stated, this team is under achieving. There are implications in such a statement. Lets leave it at that!

Thanks for the feedback. If Ryle has a strong youth football feeder system that should help them avoid down classes or down years as each class begins to overlap with another class. Is there "open enrollment" in northern Kentucky? If so, such a feeder system will also draw younger age boys toward Ryle at earlier ages.

Kenton County, until recently, has been open enrollment. That has changed this year due to over crowding in some schools.

 

I'm not sure how Campbell County operates, but I believe only Newport and Campbell are high schools in the county school system.

 

You do see athletically motivated transfers/enrollments from Boone and Kenton schools to Beechwood and Cov Cath. Highlands attracts many of athletes from Campbell.

I expected more from this team too, but...

 

How many of the kids you named as talent for Boone are Seniors? I thought this team would perform better, but the team lost 28 seniors from the team that went to the state semi's a year ago.

 

The team needs a QB to at least give the threat of the pass. Both Ingolia & Schulze are "gamers" who play the game hard, but neither demand any respect from opposing defenses. Pack 8-9 guys in the box it becomes difficult to ground & pound.

 

Every team has to deal with injuries through a football season, but Boone was hit early & often.

 

I would agree with those who criticize the lack of imagination in the Rebel offense. I think the staff would like to open things up, but I don't think the current group has a QB that they trust to throw the ball with any success. Priority #1 has to be to start developing and using QB's. I thought last year that Kam Schwartz gave the team a reliable, talented QB that the staff trusted for the first time in a long time. The team probably misses him more than anyone else because they didn't develop a replacement.
