Always good to see a KY team beat Ironton!

Don't have all the stats, was listening at work and we got busy during the second half, but caught most of it...

 

Ironton actually was stuffed on the run, and Lewis contained. All their offensive success was throwing the ball to their big TE. That was the story of the game. That, and they couldn't stop JC's running attack. At all.

I'm just thrilled for you guys Eagle. Nice to see any KY team beat an OH team and I always pull for you guys unless you are playing Belfry.

 

This makes your district race look kind of interesting if you are into comparing scores against common opponents.

This tells us that it is easier to beat Ironton on this side of the pond then it is to beat them in Ohio. No shocker about that.

Ashland and Johnson Central……………Very close to one another.

This appeared to be a statement game for JC and Coach Matney. It had the atmosphere of a 3rd round matchup in the playoffs. A lot of doubt had been uttered, and rightfully so, about JC and their competitiveness in a tough Class 4A. The JC defense completely shut down the rushing attack of Ironton which is spearheaded by their stud RB Lewis. Unofficial stats had him at 47 yds on 15 carries I believe. Irontons lone offensive weapon was #88, not sure of the name. His size gave the undersized JC secondary problems.

 

This was probably the best I have seen the JC rushing attack in a few years. JC's depth in the backfield this year is going to give alot of defenses problems, just as it did Ironton, due to the overall balance and quality. They ran through the Ironton defense just about at will all night. Young, Dillon, Belcher, Preston, and Gound all had big nights on the ground and kept the Ironton 6-3 defense honest on their keys. Its a much different rushing attack than just a year ago when it was JJ and more JJ. JC lone pass attempt was a thing of beauty as Gound connect with Adkins for a 58yd bomb that was right on the money.

 

In the end though i believe JC depth was ultimately to much for Ironton, which was suprisingly small in numbers. It was a good game by both teams and one I hope will continue to be played in the following years to come.
