WOW! Nice comeback HHS Freddies! I saw about 1 1/2 quarters and the NCC freddies were taking it to the Baby Birds. The NCC TD was a real beauty. 80yd. (?) romp right up the gut that was VERY WELL BLOCKED! At that point NCC had the BBirds reeling. LOTS of mental mistakes/penalties that they will grow out of making. I will assume that the BBirds made some nice adjustments at half...good job coaches! I need an opinion from someone who stayed for the whole game: Did NCC wear out due to lower numbers? What was the scoring rundown? Who/how? Thanks!

 

It was 15-8 in the 4th. I have to feel that numbers were worn down towards the end.

Even though the score was close for the better part of the game, you really felt that HHS was never in trouble. They were able to move the ball up and down the field but kept shooting themselves in the foot with untimely and in some cases questionable penalties. Outside of the long run by Jacob Smith, NCC really only threatened one more time at the end of the first half. Game was all Highlands in the second half with the final touchdown coming on a run of 5 yards from Cody Stamper. Austin Hergott scored the other two touchdowns for HHS. Highlands was forced to punt twice in the game and there were no turnovers that I can remember except for an interception by Jordan Johnson on the second to last play of the game.

Do they have am Freshman kicker that can kick a 47 yard field goal?

They do! Not sure who the kid is, but he booms the ball, not to mention he is the best punter I have seen this year....on any level!

Was much closer than the score. Not to mention the baby birds going for 2 up 20 with less a minute left. Pretty standard highlands move. NCC shot themselves in the foot too many times in offense. Dropped balls and unforced errors cost them the game. NCC dropped a TD at the end of the first half that would have put them up 16-8. 7 for highlands has grown up and is a very good qb for highlands and #5 is an excellent football player. Both teams have some really good football players. Should be fun to watch these two classes when they get older.

Highlands went for 2 at the end of the game because the kicker was having some physical issues at the time and not to try and score more points like you suggest. If you noticed, a different kid did the final kickoff of the game for the same reason. At the frosh level they do not have a backup for extra points/field goals. The fact that NCC went for 2 on their first score would lead me to believe that they do not have anyone that kicks extra points either.

Jacob Smith is a really strong and talented runner however from my perspective, he is really the only option NCC even considers. Most of their kids go both ways and despite their low numbers, they don't look to go to the bench very much. That's always going to cause them problems against bigger teams.

Glad to report Kreiger's injury seems to be a severe pinched nerve in his neck with no broken bones. Glad to hear he will be back soon.
