I posted the fair catch scenario on a ref message board. Ball is dead as soon as the receiving team takes possession IF(key) the official recognized the fair catch signal. If he did then they can also penalize the receiving team for delay if the runner took off running with the ball.

Any competent official would of seen Way's FC signal. Blatantly obvious. Once again, very bad crew.

I wonder if either coaching staff has "black flagged" this crew? Coaches can do that in high school, correct?

That is what I thought as well, that the ball is dead. I am not sure HOW the officials did not recognize the fair catch but they missed plenty. My question to you is, the person who called the fair catch is NOT the person who caught the ball, does this make a difference?

At one point CC needed to get PASSED the 10 yard line to get a first down (they were driving) and they were short of the 10 and the ref gave them the 1st down. Terrible!

It does not make a difference as to who calls it vs who catches it. The signal is for the team not for an individual.

High school rules question.

Conner had 4th and 16 from the CC 34. Pass interference was called on the 4th down pass. They walked off 15 and then measured. I was under the impression that it was an automatic first down. Conner had to run a 4th and 1 play to get the first.

I will assume they got it correct. 99.9% sure that's an automatic first down in pro. Not high school?

Coach Trosper mentioned on his Sunday Coach's Show that the Director of Officials personally contacted him about this game to apologize. He also said that the Director told him that the interference call in question should have resulted in an automatic 1st down.

too bad it wasn't interference.

too bad it wasn't interference.

It is not a matter of if it was or was not interference, the point is they called interference, and didn't assess the correct penalty. They made something up. They were bad, and apparently called to apologise for it.

No arguement there. They struggled a bunch.
