The secondary is garbage.

Gresham is a baby.

Terrence Newman is awful.

Leon was rusty

Taylor Mays is dumb....and awful.

Brandon Tate is a maniac.

Marvin Lewis is the worst coach in the NFL. Unfortunately his boss won't fire anyone so he just sits in his office and rakes in the money while putting mediocre teams on the field year after year after year.

Marvin never has his teams prepared when facing a good team, and he only had 7 months to prepare for this game.

 

Our secondary is the worst in the entire league, Leon Hall wasn't Rusty, he played the same he always plays. He played the same he did last year before he got hurt and he wasn't that great then either. Our D-Line has Atkins and that is about it until Dunlap comes back. Peko is the worst DT in the game, I get so tired of seeing him get thrown back 5 yards on every run play and zero penetration on every pass play. This team will be like they have always been under Marvin, they will win against bad teams and lose against good teams.

 

One thing you can guarantee, every time they beat a bad team there will be those that will start talking Super Bowl.

FC I agree with almost everything you said except the top 10 D thing. Football outsiders had them ranked as the 17th best D last year. They factor in who they played in their rankings. I didn't think the Gals could win this game but thought the next 5 were very winnable. They still are.

 

Most NFL experts have been talking all off season about how the Bengals defense is very underrated and how they were a top 10 defense. Maybe you found one small set of people who ranked them as the 17th best and that is fine, because your going to use whatever you want to support your argument. However the majority of people and NFL experts have recognized the Bengals as one of the better defenses in the NFL. Shoot I like what Steve Young said about the game. He said it is not like the Bengals are a bad team, they are a good team. That is just how good the Ravens played last night. Now a few more performances like that, and then yeah everyone will be in agreement with your small minority of people who don't consider them that.

 

For me with it being the first game and the Ravens offense tearing up the Steelers defense last year too makes me give them a little bit of a break. The Ravens have even more weapons this year, and are playing a more wide open style. Now the Bengals defense better go make Weeden next week look like the rookie that he is. No reason why the Browns should score more than 10 points next week if even that.

This post right here is the perfect example of what people talk about when they talk about overreaction Monday this case Tuesday after the first week of NFL games.

The D-line besides Atkins didn't play that well last night, and didn't get much of a consistent rush on the QB. Having Dunlap back will help that a lot, and if there is a rush on the QB then it also helps the DB's out.

This guy and others like him that offer up statistical information and bet for a living actually know football stats way better than ex player like Steve Young. Young is better at a lot of analysis than these kinds of people. Statistical analysis, especially using something like yards allowed to rank defenses isn't one of them.

Absolutely they were a big factor. It wasn't a blowout until the pick 6. I'm not blaming them for the loss, Bengals would've lost with the real refs. Just saying there were three critical calls in the first half when it was still close. Did you watch the game? Did you think Boldin caught the touchdown? ...AJ Green caught his pass? Those were very obvious, plus there were others than could've gone either way.

 

Yep I watched it. I saw those missed calls. I've seen regular refs blow the same exact calls. If we are so sure that Green made a catch, then why are we not questioning the head coach for not throwing the red flag. Thats on him not the refs. The refs had nothing to do with 27 unanswered points in the 2nd half. Yep some bad calls. No way it was "big factor" in the outcome of this game.

Thats fair enough. I am still not to concerned with this defense yet though because as long as Dunlap gets healthy that will help the overall defense. When you have people like Dunlap and Geno who can rush the passer that will help the secondary too. They had no consistent pass rush last night. However besides a few blown coverages especially on the TE. There was some passes where the DB was right there, they just didn't make the play on the ball and dropped 3 interceptions. Which even one of them could have made a big change in the game. So as bad as it was, there signs that it can and will get better. Which I admit they definitely have to get better if they want to do anything this year. If not then they could be looking at a 6 and 10 season.

I agree. I mean if the Bengals just catch even one of the 3 interceptions that hit them in the hands, that could have been something that was a turning point in the game and gave the Bengals momentum. Those miss calls happen and with the game being the way it was it didnt really matter. Even if the overturn Bolden's catch, the Ravens still probably go down and score since the Bengals were not stopping them last night at all.

I thought Marvin should have challenged Green's catch and the spot of the ball on the next play. Getting beat by 40 makes people forget that among the top problems though.

It's hard to argue the impact of a play or call and what could have subsequently happened, or how momemtum shifts; but these calls were big plays that affected the score. I can not understand why Marvin didn't challenge the Green catch, not his shining moment. That was obvious at first glance of the replay. Marvin always appears more nervous and less prepared against Baltimore than any other team. By the way, I am a season ticket holder and a die hard fan.
