Presidential election what ifs.

This pretty much sums it up for me. I am white, retired, homeowner and am better off than I was four years ago and believe that I - AND THE COUNTRY - will be even better off in 2016 if the current President remains in office.

Simple decision for me. I would use the term "black and white", but that would screw up the whole thing...

Curious if you think your pictured daughter is better off with the almost 50% increase (in only 3 1/2 years) in the already unsustainable nation debt that she's on the hook for?? I know my kids of a similar age aren't, whether or not they know it (Pretty sure they do though because they actually pay a little attention unlike most of their peers)??

It's not 1964 anymore. To answer your thorough post maybe you should do research on both parties and what they have done for black people since 1980.

You do understand the War on Drugs initiated by Ronald Reagan and how that war was fought in the black communities throughout America and the black community is still to this day recovering from that?

You are aware of how the drugs were funneled into the ghetto and is generally believed to be the main cause for the black struggle?

You do understand that the black struggle was born and brought to the mainstream world during Reagan's term via rap music?

Funny how you left off welfare on your list. Who is for it and who is against it? Riddle me that.

Affirmative action?

You do understand that since my birth(1974) republicans have perpetuated every racial stereotype an 'angry white man' can perpetuate?

Your whole post reeks of the elitism that rubs black people the wrong way. How dare the blacks like the democrats even though the republicans have never seemed to give a crap about them in the first place. My fault, since the 1970's when the blacks began to sell drugs and actually make money doing it. It's all about relating to people and the republicans haven't shown an ability to relate to black people since you freed us from slavery. My fault, since 1964.

So, white Republicans haven't been able to "relate" to black people because we don't like money-making drug dealers? Look, you are not going to offend me by calling me a white elitist, and hopefully I don't offend you by saying that if you think the "black struggle" began with rappers in the 1980's, then your cheese has fallen off of your cracker and you are disgracing the real civil rights marchers 25 years your senior who walked with Dr. King. The only point I was making is the gross disparity in voting. I mean, 90% of the vote? Women voters hover in favor of Democrats anywhere from 53-60%, Latinos anywhere from 55-65%, union workers, including teachers, anywhere from 56-65%, but no one group comes even remotely close to blacks in buying the kool-aid being sold by one party or the other. I did mention welfare in my post, and hopefully you're not advocating that welfare dependence is a good thing. I mentioned affirmative action, too. I've done plenty of research and don't need more. You still haven't answered my question, which is, are black citizens significantly better off as a populace (not just rappers and drug dealers) since 1964?

I said the black struggle hit mainstream in the 1980's. Which means that no one knew or cared about it nationally until rap publicized it. The black struggle began the day black leaders sold their villagers to be slaves.

I'm not advocating welfare dependency but many blacks have benefitted from welfare and generally believe republicans want to do away with the system. It's funny how when blacks mention welfare in a positive manner it is perceived that we encourage welfare dependency. I know many blacks who received welfare and no longer need it. Welfare works. Is there abuse? Yes. There is also abuse of FMLA but I don't see any politicians trying to ban it or reform it.

Your question....are black citizens as a populace significantly better off since 1964? Is this a real question? I don't even know why I have to answer that question. Do you know any black people? Have you ever seen any in person not playing sports or bussing your table? I'm going to just say yes to your question. You do know there is a black middle class now? You do know there are black politicians who Ardmore than aldermen now? You do know the POTUS is black(well, biracial but close enough)? Are blacks better off since 1964? Uh, yeah. At the very least I can drink from the same water fountain as my boss.

When I said white republicans can't relate to black people I was speaking about the politicians. When it comes to working the black vote it is obvious the democrats know how to do so and the republicans need some lessons. If the republicans really wanted the black vote now why wouldn't they just site their record amongst blacks before 1964? That'll get em out in support of Romney.

While the rising debt is an important factor, it is only one factor. If that were the only factor it would still be a toss-up; as the path we were on from 2000-2008 was pretty clearly little different than the one we're on now.

This voter is not particularly anxious to return there. And neither is my daughter, who gets to vote in the Presidential election for the first time.

As I have stated many times, my overarching issue is war. Give me the President's foreign policy experience over Candidate Mitt "I couldn't participate in a friendly trip to England without screwing it up" Romney's any day and twice on Sunday.

Obama had NO foreign policy experience until he became President. Does Mitt deserve the same chance, I dont see why not. cant do much worse. Maybe he can re open Gitmo since Obama promised to close it, OH WAIT, he didnt follow through on that PROMISE, it is STILL OPEN. (A GOOD THING)

Remember all those threads during the Bush years about the rising debt burdening our kids and grandkids? Wonder what ever happened to those. Seems like the 60% increase would have those posters up in arms. What's changed? Hmmmmmm.
