14'th Region

Featured Replies

14'th Region should be a fun region to watch this year for baseball. With 1-7 being very close together in my opinion. Would like to hear what everyone else thinks.

The 14th should be fun to watch this year. Most teams are close to each other, talent wise.

Knott Central will be tested the first game of the season. KCC plays Leslie County.

It will definately be exciting! I would say that the teams are so evenly matched that most teams will split the games if they play twice. I personally like a baseball game more if the game is close. There is NOTHING more boring than a blow out in baseball.

It will be one of the strongest regions in KY... awesome teams playing.

It would be hard to pick a top five. I truly believe that if teams play each other twice in a season, that most of them would split the games. This region is going to be extremely competative this season.

IMO 4 teams stand out and the rest are kind of grouped together. PCC,Leslie,Lee and Estill are my first tier. KCC,Powell,Buckhorn,Owsley, Hazard are my second tier. Will be very competetive but I believe the pitching of the first 4 will be so much stronger in tourney play that they will prevail. It is still early and who knows what can happen. That is why they still play on the field and not here. It will be fun to watch.

the 56th district is stacked!!! Lee, Estill, Powell & Owsley (return all starters & add Robert Smith)

Early in the season, will the success of Basketball at Leslie, Lee, Hazard and others affect the Baseball program, since they may be vying for tournament position.

It could. Most baseball teams are conditioning for baseball. And those teams that have players that play basketball, may or may not have problems adjusting. It really depends on the player. A real athlete may just go from one sport to another without any problems. Maybe some rust in a couple of games.

I don't think Lee has a starter or even in their first seven that even play baseball. I may be mistaken but I believe I am right. May effect Leslie, they share quite a few athletes.

...true but I was thinking more specifically about hitting and pitching, rather than daily positions....getting the timing down of hitting, plus the mechanics of pitching are sometimes 2-3 weeks into the season, after an extensive practice schedule.

If some of these teams advance into the Region or state, than the season could start with only 5-7 days of practice, which I often have felt many KY and mountain small schools, are often hurt early in Baseball by the success of the basketball program, since some/most may have key players involved with both sports.

That's a great point. I didn't think about the timing apects. It'll be an advantage for teams that don't have anyone playing basketball. Plus, your arm has to get into the "baseball" motion and strength for baseball. Since, arm motions are different in basketball, it'll take time. In basketball there is more of a pushing motion and baseball, you throw. Both are very different and may take a week or so to get used to it. Unless you have a dedicated athlete who takes time out to throw and take BP over the Winter.

Knott Central only has a couple of players that are playing basketball. So, it shouldn't really hurt the team at all.

Other teams, like Perry Central and Lee, are just like KCC. Not many are playing basketball, if any at all. Leslie, Hazard, and maybe Owsley are the teams that usually have players that do both sports.

I think owlsey may have 3 of their starters playing basketball right now.

One of the most competitive.....maybe

One of the strongest....no chance
