One of the reasons I believe NKy 6A is down is because of the inability to compete for championships. It is just too easy for kids in the districts of these schools to attend one of the smaller programs that have the ability to compete for titles in lower classes. It really does impact retention. I'm betting that we will see Boone County kids gravitate to Cooper and Conner for this reason.

Except there isn't open enrollment in Boone county. I don't think a lot of kids are transfering to win a state championship. Some do it for coaches, or to maybe better their situation. Not every great athlete can afford tuition or work out getting a ride to school everyday.

However, Conner did get the benefit of dropping to 5A, where as Boone and Ryle did not. Boone especially was hurt because they only had 712 males after realignment. I believe the magic number for 6A classification is 700. Yet, they are expected to compete with schools that have twice their male enrollment (T and X have close to 1400, Scott about 1250). Dixie is in the same situation as well.

 

I thought they got that number off the girl enrollment??

Even if it was average the people prob wouldn't admit it.
