I know it's still a week away but it's never too early to start talking about a big game.

 

Early season rankings have these two at the top of their respective classes.

 

Somerset comes in 2-0 with a 20-6 win over East Jessamine and a 48-2 win over Southwestern.

Hazard comes in 1-0 with a 23-17 win over Clintwood VA.

 

Somerset made school history last year by winning 14-0 at Hazard in the third week of the season last year. The History? It was by most accounts the first time Somerset had ever won a football game played on any kind of turf field. This year the game will be at the Briar Patch on a natural grass field.

 

The game last year wasn't a pretty game for either team and Somerset put the game a way with a blocked field goal returned for a TD and some great defense (shutting Hazard out for the first time since Aug 2006 against Harlan) and punting by Alex Lange. Hazard definitely played well enough to win last year but just came up on the short end of the big plays.

 

Hazard is the defending 1A State Champs and Somerset is coming off of a year in which they made the 2A Final 4. This game has all the makings for an instant classic next Friday at Clark Field.

After this past weeks games Somerset may not be 2A#1 which is fine with me. Still should be one of the marquee games of the week and very hard to pick.

I agree, Somerset may not be #1 next week after Danville's showing. Somerset is getting ready to put themselves to the test over the next few weeks which should have them ready for 10/5/12.

Hazard is not as good as they were last year, they lost a bunch. They will still be very good by the end of the year, but if last years team couldn't beat Somerset this years team definitely won't.

I think Somerset will take this one in a close hard fought game, with a little more scoring than in last years game.. I'll say somewhere in the neighborhood of 28-21..

Any info on Hazard this year, who did they lose who do they return. Only one game against out of state competition so I don't really have anything to base my thoughts on other than last years game.

I will go with Somerset in this one, and I think they should be #1 in 2A right now. I'm hoping Danville doesn't let the win over Boyle go to their head. I don't think they will and I think Coach Harp has some good chemistry and attitude going with the ADS so far, but until and IF they defeat Somerset, I think the Briar Jumpers are #1.:thumb:

Somerset played HC last year in the finials and I can say they were real good!!! If they didn't lose a lot I can't see how they lose this game!! U guys are going to be tuff this year. Good luck this week!!

I think Somerset Will win this game. Hazard will have a hard time blocking Somerset's Down people and Linebackers. Running room will be hard to find for Hazard. I pick Somerset by 2 Td's.

I agree. I thought the Jumpers might be down a little by losing so many players, but they appear to be even better this season.

Southwestern was so bad that you can't take much from that game...this week and the next few will tell us what kind of team Somerset really has this year.
