Ryle could only score 6 points on Cooper there is no way they score on Colerain.

 

You are putting a lot of stock in a bad Cooper performance in which the team had a major letdown and Cooper played really well. I look forward to Ryle meeting SK. The rusults will be the same as they have been every time the two teams have met, save three in their history. A Ryle victory.

Please do some research before you start making comments like this. Plenty of "tradition and history" in football within the state of Ky. As a matter of fact, there are three schools ranked in the top ten winningnest high school football programs in the U.S. If my memory serves me correctly, Ohio had just two.

It's primarily "garbage in" and "garbage out" on football versus basketball in Kentucky. Anyone that knows anything about high school football in Kentucky knows that football is king. Basketball is less attended. The only two things that basketball has on football in Kentucky is the Sweet 16 and UK. After that, it all football in the state. I guess it's just easier for people to repeat and agree with what they have heard, then to actually go against the grain.

Colerain is much larger than Ryle. Check the numbers. The student populations aren't even close.

Colerain Male enrollment (09-10 school year) grades 9-11 = 846 boys

Ryle Male enrollment (11-12 school year) grades 9-11 = 691 boys

 

That is a 22% difference which I would classify as significant. I was suprised to see this result. I honestly thought that Ryle was bigger than that. I am curious to see what Colerain's new numbers are this year. I imagine they will drop below 800 boys, grades 9-11.

 

The other factor I didn't take into account is that for sports in KY, I believe TOTAL enrollment is used to classify the sports programs, regardless of split between male/female.

To answer your question, no. This is not the year. Not out of the realm of possibility but not feeling overly confident with this group. If we could find a way out of Cincinnati, I think their chances increase 5 fold.

KY classification is based on overall student population. I know that Ryle is around 1700 and Colerain is well into the 2000's. Boone County will not allow a high school to get that big. Once they do, they build a new high school.

Very true. CovCath did not want to renew the home and home under the previous leadership. I can assure everyone that it was not Ryle's idea to drop CovCath.

 

Why would it have been? They were beating CovCath like a drum.

This is never a solid argument in Ohio when judging how good a program is. St. X and Elder each have 2. St. Ed's just won their first one. All of those programs would be perennial state champs in Kentucky.

Clearly, you don't understand the inner workings of High School athletics. Colerain AND Ryle get more out of this agreement than just Football. Colerain and Ryle played each other in both Boys and Girls basketball last year as well. In addition, soccer, baseball and softball matchups are trying to be planned out as well. It's an opportunity for both schools to fill their boys AND GIRLS programs with a comparable opponent. Ryle beat Colerain last year in every other contest they played, except football and basketball. Seems to be working out fine for both programs.

 

The gap is going to continue to widen between Colerain and the GCL, but it has absolutely nothing to do with "leadership."

Based on the most recent information I have, Ryle is at 1,635 (KHSAA website) and extrapolating Colerain's data (OHSAA website) from October 2010 would put them at ~2,150. I don't know that qualifies as "well into the 2000's" but it is more than Ryle.

 

As I said, I would expect Colerain's numbers to drop when figures are released this year but not enough to match Ryle.

 

It is nice to be able to build a new High School whenever the population calls for it. Not the case in OH. OH is broken in that regard. But I digress...
