I would love to hear from kids or parents that played with her at Ryle to see how many college coaches attended her games. I can see the local schools. Not sure how it was done several years ago but most kids in her position now would be offered at least before her soph year. We have a girl going to Washington that was verbaled before she threw a pitch in HS.

 

I am just trying to pass along info that I have learned over the last couple of years. I understand every sitiutiaton is different and what works for one kid might not work for all. I have been lucky enough to help several girls get D1 rides and I don't recall one conversation with a D1 coach that asked about there HS team. If this helps some one young so be it if not please ignore.

I can tell you right now, OU did not recruit her from high school they recruited her from her summer team. Maybe the Thomas Mores and Mt. St Joes of the world recruit from the high school level around here but I can say the top softball players are being recruited from their summer teams from the bigger tournaments. Maybe if she was from California, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma or Florida then maybe she was recruited from high school where the competition is on a more equal ground but in the state of Kentucky softball (High School) is a behind. It is getting there but it is probably 5 years behind.

Agree with that, but they knew she would be playing in those tournaments and they would be able to evaluate her there. Here is my example for you and I am taking it too an extreme for effect. If the 2b at Cooper High School starts the season 28-30 with 25 home runs do you think these div. 1 coaches are going to ignore that because it was in KY high school softball games? I don't think so. These coaches knew who Kirsten was, the summer team just made the recruiting much easier. You aren't going to see college coaches at high school games. It is impossible to be in Norman OK or some other big-12 venue and Union KY at the same time. I understand the whole summer big tournament recruiting that is the norm now. Doesn't mean I like it, seems to eliminate a lot of very good players that are not willing or able to make that kind of commitment. That is one reason why the KHSAA has eased the rules for high schools.

Good point, but the commitment to play ball in college in most cases is a greater commitment than doing the travel ball circuit, therefore I would be willing to bet that most college coaches are not particularly interested in kids/parents that won't make the commitment to play travel ball. Due to limited resources and scholarship money available for softball at the college level, coaches are looking for more than just physical talent, especially at the highest levels. Softball and baseball coaches at the college level cannot take the same type of chances on kids that basketball/football coaches can.

Not quite the numbers you were talking about but I would think they were pretty good. Not only did no college coaches notice, no NKY coaches noticed either. She did not get any thing as far as awards from NKY. I believe 2 of those homers were against your team.

I would blame that on her high school coach. If any kid is doing that well then the coach IMO has the responsibility to promote that kid a lot more. It is very sad that she did not get any recognition or receive any awards. She definitely deserved it.

Agree but was just trying to make a point that if NKY coaches don't notice then its going to be real hard for colleges coaches to.

Should not have to promote too much in a small geographical area like the 9th Region/NKY.

I understand what you are saying about having to show the commitment. My point is that plenty of these kids are committed, but are not able to make these trips. Wouldn't you like to be able to play tournaments in Cincy,Louisville and Lexington and still have those opportunities? I remember reading a story in reader's digest one time about a man with a kid that was a field hockey player I think. He said he spent about $20000 over time and his kid ended up with a $20000 scholarship. I do understand competing against the very best, but wouldn't it be great if it was more convenient?

It would be great, but unfortunately, not realistic at this point in this day and age. We are a very mobil society due to technology, which allows people to travel long distances to compete. This stuff would have been considered insanity 30 years ago, but is the norm now.

The odd thing to me about that is she was Enquirer honorable mention both the year before and after. I realize her team had a very bad year, but the individual season she had should not have been overlooked.

Nothing I can do about that. She is going to end up ok. Some schools do a great job at promoting theirs kids, some just don't.

Rule 8

Have seen her pitch, I believe she is very good. With that being said I would be shocked if she gets much pitching time at Texas. I have been wrong before so good luck to her.

 

Not sure why your so negative but with opinions like that I'm sure you've been wrong alot more than right. Lol don't recall reading anything bad about other kids on these forums getting to play at the collegiate level on a scholarship?
