Cincy Pitcher Commits to Longhorns

I'll have to agree with SSC on this one. If it was just any old player that replaced her that would be one thing. She was replaced by arguably the best player in the country. My opinion is she would have been the ace on over half the teams in the power conferences. Just curious, why do you think she would be a good pitching instructor?

I agree. I believe Kirsten Allen was the real deal, it was just unfortunate that she was behind Ricketts after her freshman year. I feel she could have pitched just about anywhere and would have been successful.

Freshman year she had 16 starts and appeared in 31 games with a 2.79 era and a 9-8 record. That's not bad for a freshman in the big 12. Coach Gasso probably doesn't swing and miss that bad on to many players. One thing for sure we will never know.

One other thing, I am as certain as I can be with out having personal knowlede that nothing she did in HS helped her get her to OU. I am sure it came through travel ball.

Has to be true.

Ya think? You do not see many college coaches at high school softball games!

You and I know that but others on here may not.

I did see UK and UL at Kirsten's games.

I did see UK and UL at Kirsten's games.

That does not surprise me, everyone wants a stud pitcher.

Totally different in my opinion. They had already done all of their recruiting on her before high school in my opinion.

I don't disagree. I'm sure they were more into the "recruiting" phase than the "eval" phase.

Agree with you somewhat, College coaches do not have the time, funds or means to recruit during the high school season. That is why so much of their recuriting is done in the summer. But if you think the only way she made it was through summer ball you are wrong. A player of her stature would have been recruited with or without summer ball.

Correct, but at what level? I doubt the Big 12, SEC, etc.. would have come calling at the same intensity level without the benefit of competitive summer/travel ball. Just my opinion.

I am wrong so you are saying by her pitching at Ryle it helped her get to OU? That's very surprising to me. Where did you hear coaches don't have the time, funds or means to recruit during HS? They have all of the above expect they only have 50 contact days a year and maybe wouldn't want to waste them to see a HS game unless its a kid that they really want. (we are talking BCS type schools that would have been recruiting Allen)

A perfect example would be Ginn from Walton. I think by anyones standards she had a wonderful career. She did not play at a very high level in the summer and now she has to walk on at a lower D1 school. If I am not mistaking I believe one of her teammates that did play at a higher level did get some athletic money to play at Bowling Green. Ginn had one of the best careers in Ky HS history but it did not help her when it came to college and that is with a family member as her coach.

Coaches recruit in the summer bc they can go to one location and see 100's of kids that may or may not be the type of player they are looking for. If a D1 coach shows up at a HS game its bc they really want the kid they are there for.

Never said summer ball isn't the easiest route for recruiting. But if you think Kirstens career at Ryle had no effect on her college recruiting you are mistaken.
