In my opinion, I'd go to one of the dental schools for ortho in a blink. That treatment is slow by design, so really no difference in duration of treatment and obviously reduced in cost in comparison. Highly recommend it.

I worked out well for us at the time. It was not far of a drive for us, and our dental plan was not generous at all for braces. Since then, our dental insurance has changed, and we moved. Number 2 finished a few months ago, and number 3 just got his, both at private practices though.

....and WHEW! I had broken a tooth so went to see about my options. Option 1 was a root canal and crown....to the tune of about $2500 and numerous follow up visits. Option 2 was to have it pulled...a total of about $200 and I can get an implant later very inexpensively. Since my insurance is weird, I elected for Option 2 and used my HSA.

 

I wish I'd gone with #1! I just finished spent an hour and a half getting that sucker out! Total of 2 and a half hours there! Numbed 3 times....apparently I have "super roots" and extra bone in my teeth.

 

And...best of all...I look like someone punched me. Should be a fun day at work tomorrow. :lol:

Best thing about false teeth, they all fall out together.

Implants are not inexpensive....I have had 2. They wanted to do 11....couldn't afford that. I also went to the UK dental school, where it supposed to be cheaper. You may check out to see if UofL has this service.

 

UofL does have this service. They have a prosthetic clinic that used to be downstairs back in the day. However, the treatment isn't as cheap as you may think and it won't be swift I can assure you. However, you will get excellent care there.

At U of L you have to get on a waiting list to become a patient there. They only accept a certain number and only certain times of the year do they accept new patients. At least that's how the people explained it to me when I inquired.

About the only thing you could do quicker when I was there was walk in to the emergency clinic.

Thanks for the thoughts you guys! Today was rough, but I made it through. I elected not to accept the prescription for Vicodan, considering I drive 3 hours a day. Didn't see taking that as wise. Ibuprofin has managed the pain fairly well...it's still painful but the edge is taken off. Luckily the employee dining room had mashed potatoes for lunch today. For once I could have a HUGE plate of taters and feel justified.

 

And goldie is right. The implant IS expensive! It looks like I'll have a huge hole in my mouth for the foreseeable future. Remind me to not make important decisions when in pain! :lol:

Anything with the word implant is a rip off. I had all 4 wisdoms, which were impacted out at once in about an hour or so. $200 for one extraction seems rather high. Root canals, crowns, implants, pay off the dentist SUV or sports car.

If you have impacted wisdom teeth and get 4 out at once it is not fun that's all I will say. The keyword is impacted, if they are normal ive heard of people being ok the next evening. If there impacted your gonna be down a few days. My dentist was pretty honest and I was knocking on 30 and told me he would only do it before then.
