July 17, 201214 yr The bombs work. Just make sure you have enough for the square footage of the house. Also, I'd make sure to be gone basically all day. The longer you wait the more effective they'll be.
July 17, 201214 yr Author I'll add that you need to read to make sure that you have enough bombs to cover the space. My house is 1800 sq feet and I needed four. Make sure to remove all food, including salt and pepper shakers! I got 6. Going to use 3 down stairs, 2 upstairs and one in the garage. Thanks for the tip on the salt and pepper shakes, I would have forgotten about them. Well, for example, we have a 2 bathroom house. We never use the downstairs bath, never. But I noticed a lot of fleas or gnats hovering around there one day. It was because of the water that sits in our drain catch (the bevel under the sink) was never getting changed out. We have 2 1/2 baths and use all 3 of them all the time. Thanks for the info I will check them. On the bites I have found if I put clear nail polish on them....they itch less. Still itch, but not as much if I didn't do this.
July 17, 201214 yr In all seriousness, they're terrible this year. They're outside the house, we have to bomb occasionally but they still get in. The monthly pet applications only seem to last a couple of weeks.
July 17, 201214 yr We had issues with fleas many years ago. Tried everything, to get rid of them, nothing worked. Got a tip from a friend which was to set up small reading lamps shining into a shallow pan of water in the corners of your rooms at night. The fleas are attracted to the light and jump into the water and drown. I was shocked by the number of fleas that went swimming. Over the course of about 3 or 4 days the number of fleas dwindled to very few. We then treated the carpet with the dust a couple of times and the fleas were gone.
July 17, 201214 yr Author Goldie, remind me not to sample the poppy seed cakes if I ever come over. In all seriousness, they're terrible this year. They're outside the house, we have to bomb occasionally but they still get in. The monthly pet applications only seem to last a couple of weeks. Do they ever bite you and your wife? They seem to really like me, but don't bother my husband or son. Worst bite I have had, nothing like a chigger or mosquito bite.
July 17, 201214 yr  Do they ever bite you and your wife? They seem to really like me, but don't bother my husband or son. Worst bite I have had, nothing like a chigger or mosquito bite. They do, but the reaction is less than a mosquito bite and way less than a spider bite or a bee sting. The wife says that BiteMD, made by Cutter, works best for her. My problem is that for some reason (I assume yet another complication from diabetes) every time I scratch an itch even the tiniest bit, the skin breaks and itches way worse. Maybe it's just thin, sensitive skin; but it's gotten way worse the last 2 summers.

Fleas literally started dying within 30 minutes of her taking it.
July 17, 201214 yr Mcpapa, have you all tried the pill called Comfortis? It was the only thing that worked for my dog. Fleas literally started dying within 30 minutes of her taking it. No - where can you purchase it?
July 17, 201214 yr No - where can you purchase it? I can only get it through my vet's office. It is kind of expensive, but well worth it. We've had no fleas since last summer!
July 17, 201214 yr I can only get it through my vet's office. It is kind of expensive, but well worth it. We've had no fleas since last summer! How expensive? What is the typical dose and how long is the pill effective?
July 17, 201214 yr How expensive? What is the typical dose and how long is the pill effective? It is supposed to last for one month and dosage/cost is based on your dog's weight. My dog was heavier last year and it was $20/pill. It was cheaper when I picked up some two months ago, but I can't quite remember the cost. We have a vet appointment on Monday, so if you haven't found out anything on price by then, I'll let you know.

July 17, 201214 yr Many, many years ago whenever we went to the beach we always kept some Adolph's meat tenderizer handy in case of jellyfish stings. I have no idea if Adolph's and water would work on insect bites, but it was the best home remedy for jellyfish poison back in the day.
