July 2, 201214 yr My air went out yesterday, Perfect timing right? Hottest 2 weeks of the year. Anyone have any recommendations for someone to use in the NKY area? The unit outside stopped working but it was still blowing out air inside. I'm sure it could be a number of things but that leads me to believe it's had a freon leak and it's empty. I hope I don't need a new unit.

My father in law knew a guy very well so he is checking it out today. July 2, 201214 yr Make sure they do not try to sell you an unneeded unit or unneeded whole house replacement. If the Unit is less than 5 years old its almost definitely under warranty. It may be under warranty if it is under 10 years old. Most major brand names (Trane) have had 10 year warrenties for a long time. Goodmans are hit and miss with 10 year warranties. A lot of the big guys will try to upgrade a Goodman install since they can make more money and they down talk the Goodmans. The advantage of Goodman is they still make 'dry' units that are not pre-configured for the new specific refrigerants. The worst problem is a 'stuck compressor'. If the compressor is really stuck inside they can try an assisted start that throws more power at it. 50/50 on that. But with the storms something electrical may have blown inside the unit. There are lots of test points for proper electrical diagnostic. If someone says you need a new unit after a assisted start try and 5 minutes of 'checking things' get a 2nd opinion. I had two bids for new units at over $2,500 this spring. Real problem was first a fried outdoor cord that was then not properly replaced. So the correct fix was a $200 service charge - not $2,500-$3,500 replacement. Good luck.
July 4, 201214 yr My uncle just replaced my cousins A/C for $1800. That was $1300 for the unit and $500 for the services. That was for a 2 ton unit. Let me know if you need him. He also replaced my dad's unit earlier this year too. He knows what he is doing...
July 5, 201214 yr Our bedroom system quit working the other day and then mysteriously came back on. Oh well!!! Hopefully the other 2 systems in our house we have don't give us any problems. Could potentially be an expensive repair!!!

He also replaced my dad's unit earlier this year too. He knows what he is doing... I appreciate it but I had them set up for today already and it was a pretty decent price. They already did a good amount of work to try and fix it that I would have to pay for anyway if I didn't use them for the replacement so not sure it would have been worth it. Everything had to be replaced inside and out.
July 5, 201214 yr I know folks (my parents included) who would highly recommend Niceley's, Rechtin, or Poston Brothers.
