2012 NKY East/West All Star Game - Canceled?

Featured Replies

Speculation is that kids who are going to play in college either didn't want to risk injury or their college coaches didn't want them to risk injury.

I can see the D1 kids getting that kind of influence from their coaches, but the D2, NAIA and D3 coaches usually enourage their recruits to play. It is somewhat of a status for the schools to have their recruits in All Star games, it is also helps validate their recruiting them in the first place.

I know that Georgetown, Lindsey Wilson, Campbellsville, Union, Thomas More, St.Joseph of Indiana and Mt. St. Joes have all encouraged their recruits to play.

I always enjoyed the game and I think it will be very sad if this tradition comes to end.

Is this for sure or just hearsay?

Confirmed.

Here in Ohio the allstar games are slowy going away.

As a fan it saddens me.

As it is a last chance to see some of the players I have followed for a long time.

That's what I was afraid of, that's sad if thats the case, then again players are leaving school now days in January so they can be ready for spring practice, guess it's just different times.

Both my sons played in this game and absolutely loved it. It was a relaxed, fun atmosphere to play with some kids that they had played against all season and get to know them on a different level. Really sorry to see this go away. It was actually one of the more rewarding All Star games.

This is very sad to say the least. The game has changed so much and more players are getting offers to play at the next level so I can see where they May Not want to risk injury. However, it Was looking pretty from for the West squad regardless this year. Probably best they forfeited.

Ya know, no one has told the East players yet.

Read in the Cincinnati Enquirer (not the Kentucky) that the annual NKY east vs. west all-star game will not be played do to lack of participants for the west team. If this is true (and if it's in the papers it has to be) then that is more than a shame. I was privileged to be apart of the east aquad my senior year and had blast. Playing with instead of against, and socially interacting with guys you never would have ever was a once in a lifetime experience. Fear now from the NKFCA is that no one will want to start it back up next year. The ones that lose out are the seniors who were honored by being chosen to play and will not. The west should have been the easiest squad to fill with Boone, Ryle, Cooper, and Conner all on that side. Freaking shame.
