June 3, 201214 yr Author Most of the places I've been to have a policy requiring ID if the buyer looks under age 35 or 40 or something like that. Yeah, I thought the policy or law was if they look 35 or 40 or under, ID.This I can understand, a cut-off point. Logic, who'd a thunk it?
June 3, 201214 yr Author I am with RTS on this one. I fully understand the points everyone is making about following the law. But if I am a judge, and a law enforcement officer and prosecutor walk up to the bench with a case where this clerk sold beer to RTS as described, I would be PO'D to the max. I would throw the case out of court and tell the prosecution to never bring a case like that to my courtroom again. This! Now, here we have a real Voice of Reason. Your post fits your user name! :thumb:
June 4, 201214 yr I'm with RTS and VOR on this one. I'm 37 and I'd be pretty PO if I couldn't by beer and didn't have my ID on me.
June 4, 201214 yr This reminds me, I couldn't see a rated R movie last summer because I didn't have my ID with me. We'd just come from the pool and weren't carrying our wallets. The manager eventually relented.
June 4, 201214 yr It is really simple RTS, the clerk has to show that she carded the parties involved on camera. Counter cameras run 24/7, that is also how the state runs checks to see if clerks are carding their customers. That is why most of your bigger chains anymore card everyone. FYI for any of you that buy beer at walmart. When the clerk gets your id to check it, the eye in the sky zooms in on your ID as well. 1. to verify you are old enough, 2. they have a match link program with the state police that runs your info through the system. If your wanted for something, the state police will be notified you were just at said walmart. Dealers in casinos have to be trained to do things certain and specific ways 'for the camera' and you have make motions at a blackjack table not just use words - again 'for the camera'. It sounds like that is the new way of the world where there is always an eye-in-the-sky. Liquor or beer on the counter - show an ID....for the camera...
June 4, 201214 yr Author Called their customer relations number today and explained what happened. They weren't very friendly from the word go, now I'm glad to be done with them. I wasn't expecting them to side with me or anything like that really. But a more professional attitude would have been nice.

June 4, 201214 yr UDF recently (i.e. a few months ago) adopted a policy that they ID EVERYONE who purchases alcohol. The sticker on the counter even says "NO EXCEPTIONS". Whether you agree or disagree with the policy, the clerk was doing her job as she was instructed. I'm surprised so many people are upset by that.

June 5, 201214 yr Folks, I understand what you all are saying. I simply don't care. Again, the majority of places that sell beer won't go that far when it's as obvious as it was in this case. How do I know that? I've been buying beer for quite some time now and I've seen that policy in many stores and I've seen said policy ignored when the purchaser is well over the legal age. The manager can say what they will, corporate can read from their scripted little card, it won't matter. They lost two customers for good, no more gas or anything else from UDF from the two of us. I have my own policy that I'm now going to be over the top about. UDF is the only store that I'm aware of that has implemented a policy that requires their clerks to card EVERYONE who purchases alcohol, regardless of how old that person appears. Most stores follow the "We card if you look under 35, 40, or 45" Policy. UDF does not. Quite frankly, it is YOUR policy that is absurd.
June 5, 201214 yr Can a UDF refuse to sell RTS beer if his drivers license is expired? Is it a regulation/rule? Interesting question. You do not necessarily need a driver's license to purchase alcohol, but you do need a valid form of identification (i.e. military ID). It seems to me that an expired license is no longer a valid form of identification, so UDF could deny on that grounds. In all reality, UDF can refuse to sell alcohol to any person for almost any reason.

You're being absurd if you think I'm going to support something as stupid as a policy like this. If you want to be treated in such a foolish manner, that's your problem.

There should be no reason to explain why someone like the two I posted a picture of shouldn't have to show an ID. If you can't see why.... I have more of a problem with the policy than the clerk.

THEN DONT!!!, go to the Kwicky Lic and get your drink on from Abdul and quit clogging up my UDF line with your useless banter, my ice cream is melting.
June 5, 201214 yr This actually reminded me of a time when I was about 15 I was with my dad in UDF and he wanted to buy a 12 pack and they wouldn't let him buy it because I was with him. He was telling the cashier I was his son, that he wasn't buying it FOR me but the guy wouldn't budge. He insisted that when purchasing alcohol, everyone in the group must be 21. Does anyone who doesn't have a problem with RTS's problem have an issue with that?
