And, Boone will always be a threat just because of Nell.

I am from North of the river so excuse me if this is a dumb question....I know KY rules are different and KY H.S. teams

can practice pretty much year round. Will these team camps or shoot outs continue all summer long? If they do, I hope

people post where they are because I always like to see a good game/games.....thanks!

Moreso her ability to somehow bring talented players to Boone County

From my perspective there is just a myth here that won't die.

Here is my personal experience. It has been stated before on here that Nell "recruited" Sydney Moss. That is absolutely not true. When Sydney decided she was leaving Ryle she didn't even know where she might go, simply that she was leaving even if she had to sit a year. Sydney's mom, having heard about Nell and the Boone program, called Nell. Nell stated emphatically that see couldn't and wouldn't talk about Sydney until and if she ended up at Boone.

Since Moss has been at Boone I know that at least two really good players have called Nell and she has given them the same answer she gave Moss' mom..........got to get enrolled and in class at Boone before I can talk to you.

This past fall a really good player actually enrolled at Boone. Before she attended any classes her parent called Coach Fookes to ask how the daughter would "fit" into the Boone plans (she would have definitely fit.....perhaps enough to get Boone to the state finals!) and Nell told the parent she wouldn't discuss it until the player was in class. The parent apparently didn't like that approach and enrolled the daughter in another school.

I know this has been Coach Fookes' approach in the last three+ years and I suspect it has always been her approach. And that is certainly different than some schools. Again, from personal knowledge, I know of coaches who used their contacts outside school basketball to come into Moss' home and recruit her to their school when she was a very young player.

I think Boone could have some rough times this year, particularly with the loss of four seniors including Moss and the loss of a sure starter who has transferred because of a family move. I'd personally rather have great players but if those players aren't available I'd take Coach Fookes coaching my team over anybody I can think of. I suspect her team this season will sneak up and surprise some team that is "better" perhaps at tournament time.

Just wanted to throw in what I know to be fact about Coach Fookes and the idea that she is out there recruiting players. I believe good players who have reason to transfer seek out schools and coaches who have demonstrated success. I'd attribute whatever transfers that have gone to Boone over the years to that. If there are any transfers to Boone, and one never knows how things might go, it won't be because Nell "recruited" them.

I was wondering what schools in NKY will be hosting team camps in the next couple of weeks and what teams will be participating and maybe what time the camps will take place. Any information will be appreciated.

Thomas More team camp this week. NKY teams such as Highlands, Conner, Ryle, Gallitin Co, Campbell Co, and more, take on Cincinnati teams. Games start 4p to 9p at TMC, Lloyd HS and St Henry HS.

I always like it when Ohio and Kentucky teams play!

Had an opportunity to see some games TMC today, Most of the games seemed very competitive. Look forward to next season. Schafer went down with an ankle injury, anyone know how she is doing?

Hopefully nothing serious. She is a very unselfish player. Which KY teams looked good.

Agreed, with her Highlands is one of top teams in region 9 next season. Winthrow looked very athletic and beat Conner, Glen Estes shot the ball very well and beat Ryle. Conner looked pretty good overall, good inside out game and a couple physical big's, they also can shoot the three. Ryle looked young and I believe they did not have all their players, Highlands look solid but need to hit the three's, Gallatin County look pretty good. Villa played hard as well as Bellvue.

Highlands looked lost without Shafer, they lost by quite a few to Badin. Prayers for her recovery - just hate to see any of them get hurt!

Agree Gallatin looked good, beat Oak Hills easily while Connor pulled out OT against McNick. Ryle won at the buzzer over Mercy, then lost by about 15 when Glen Este hit maybe 8 treys, while Ryle had about that many freshman rotating in.

More games tomorrow.

Ah, sorry RCC, that makes more sense! The part of the game I saw for Highlands was not pretty - then I must have flip-flopped the score. MY BAD (IN) ! :idunno:

No worries! They have several young players that try to play too fast sometimes! They actually had a 7th grader there last night. They should be okay. Think Schaeffer was just a sprain and they also get a very good player back from last year that only played 8 games before getting injured. Ava Abner. If they all stay healthy, they should be able to compete in the 9th region this year.

I agree Highlands looked different without Schafer which would be expected. Didnt get to see Ryle. Thought Simon looked good and were without Owings and Bosse. A fan said Gallatin was without 4 of their top 8 including a leading scorer.

Were the teams playing Withrow and Glen Este down players last night? They aren't top teams in the Cincinnati area....
