Because I've unfortunately had interactions with the slime pit that is Kentucky politics and if you're not a registered Democrat you don't even get in the door.

I apologize for having a full-time position that is a 40 minute commute, one-way, from my polling location. Good for you for having the full day off to volunteer at the polls. Unfortunately, not all of us have that luxury.

 

And even if I knew that I could leave work for 90 minutes (or longer depending on the line) to vote, I wasn't barking up that tree when no one else at my organization seemed to care.

Don't apologize for having a job be happy someone wanted to hire you . I'm sorry but I retired from working as a union pipefitter 8 years ago,and over my 40 years working i don't think that I had a commute as short as 40 minutes , you traveled to where the work was I live in the Ft Thomas Southgate area and for at least 15 years my job required me to travel to the Carrollton Ky area for work ( Dow Corning ) because that is where the piping contractor I worked for had jobs I had to be there at 7:00am and never have I missed a vote in any election . I also worked for a year at Toyota helping to construct that plant , these were over a 1 hour commute and again I have never missed voting in an election whether a primary or general . I have voted in every election that I have been eligible for since I turned 18 in 1965 . Also I consider working at the polls my civic duty not a luxury . Your excuses are poor excuses :cry: .

Also if you are in the line at your polling place at 6:00 when the polls are supposed to close you are allowed to vote no matter how long it takes .

I can't speak for All Tell, but most people I know register Democrat so they can have a say in local elections (Judge Executive, Sheriff, Magistrates, etc.).

This. I had planned on changing my registration but realized I was going to miss out on too many local elections. Yesterday for example we had to vote on the Circuit Court Clerk. The incumbent is a Dem and she had a challenger. No one else is running. So the Dem primary was the deciding vote.

I guess it's dependent upon where you reside. In neighboring Lewis County, for example, a Democrat has about as much chance of winning a local election as mountain ref has of being named President of the Michelle Obama Fan Club.

My father was a Union Construction Electrician with IBEW, he helped construct that plant as well. Small world.

 

Back to the post...I am a registered Democrat and wish I could have voted for Alecia, she is my cousin by marriage and would have definitely helped her get elected in the Fall, but I guess it didn't work out.
