KY Class of 2014

Featured Replies

I'm trying to think of a recent class that has as much quality in it as the 2014 class.

I was at KBA today and saw a lot of the players in that class. Crazy how good that class is.

And to think the best player transferred out of state....

Is Russell at KBA this weekend?

No.

Do you mean Russell or Dakari Johnson? This class is as good as any I can remember. What other class has had this much talent? Just curious. And just think if Johnson and Russell were still a part of this KY class!!!

I was talking about Russell. Since Johnson left before the 9th grade I have never really counted him. Is Johnson actually from lex? The fact that he has been to three schools in three totally different states for three consecutive years has me wondering if he just came to lex by happenstance.

True, and actually Johnson only left New Jersey because his coach Kevin Boyle took the job at Montverde in Florida and he followed him down to Florida. Montverde is a very high level boarding school who in their defense doesn't compete for the state championship in Florida in basketball. They do compete in other sports.

Johnson moved to Lexington in 5th grade and started on the Sayre varsity team as a 7th and 8th grader. He is in the KHSAA books as playing just like OJ Mayo was.

Who is Russell, who did he play for and when did he leave the states?

D'angelo Russell played at Central High School in Louisville his freshman year then transferred to Montverde in Florida for his sophomore year. He will be a junior next season.

Thanks, I now remember some past conversations about him.

Didn't his school in New Jersey, St. Patrick's, also close.
