This is obviously a very subjective question. However, in this rare Spring 2012 weather season, can you claim to be serious about baseball if you did not play more than 30 of the 36 allowed regular season games?

 

My response: No. Nothing is more important than game conditions and repetitions / experience, particularly in baseball. If you didn't schedule enough to start with, get on the phone and find some folks to play. If you are running short of pitching, give someone else a shot that has never tried. You never know how they will respond.

CovCath plays as many games as possible ever year and this is the first year I can remember, where we actually had to cancel games to keep under the max of 36 games!

I think most teams overschedule in NKY every year and drop as needed, no uncommon, easier to drop then add imo.

BTW, what was the record of the CovCath State Champion team a few yrs back.

I think that sign catches my eye everytime I walk into the football stadium (strategically placed, lol), 46-2 or something crazy like that. Most wins in USA that yr. That is impressive, I dont care who ya root for.

I think the record was 40-3.

I thought it was 41-3. That is quality at any level.

Not so certain I agree that the number of games scheduled is the sole determinant in deciding whether a school takes baseball "serious", but I certainly think Ryle takes its baseball very serious. Just out of curiosity, I went back and checked the number of regular season games they played in the past 10 seasons (including 2012) - 36, 31, 35, 30, 30, 33, 35, 30, 33, 32. You can be certain that any season they did not push the 35-36 game total had to do with weather and not scheduling. I would also submit that Ryle's coach annually puts together one of the toughest schedules of any team in NKY. He usually plays between 5-8 state-ranked teams from outside the NKY area each season. On the flipside, I would like to see the school step up its commitment to the program and invest a couple of dollars into helping to upgrade the team's field. Every bit of improvement over the past 5-6 years has come with funds generated by parents.

With weather like we've had this season, what schools aren't close to the 36 game limit? I'm sure there are some in NKY, just don't feel like pulling it up.

 

I can understand very small schools with very limited rosters playing a shortened schedule, but would guess that would only include Silver Grove, Calvary, Villa and maybe Dayton. And, Heritage if they had a squad.
