Seriously though.......Congrats to Coach Sawyer and his staff at Villa. He scheduled the larger teams (CCH, NCC, Dixie, etc) to show his guys how other programs operate. He does a nice job trying to keep the spirits up and he and his staff really have to be as much of a "teacher" than Coach.

 

Congrats to him and all of the smaller programs that fight the good fight...........Good luck moving forward.

 

..........and I hear KHSAA may implement a handicapping system that takes the average ACT score of the team and gives the difference to the higher team in runs to start the game..........

On a serious note that was a great accomplishment, and I remember played that CovCath team in 2002 in the District Championship and they were loaded! I was very happy to see them win state that year, GREAT TEAM!!

No, and those who support and care about the same school I do know exactly what I mean. " I don't know" I don't know".

 

Zig, at one time back in the day, baseball was the "THE SPORT" all over town with every age groupl!

 

I remember those days and was a part of those days. The times have changed and unfortunately baseball has suffered in my hometown.

 

The talent in Ludlow has just gone down more than anything. Plus now a days with select teams, and parents thinking their kids are going to be the next big league star they move or send their kid to a bigger school. Even though they would barely get more noticed at a bigger school anyways. A lot of things have gone into it for why things may have gone down hill in Ludlow in terms of baseball. To many kids these days are not learning the simple fundamentals in knothole, and how to play smart baseball. Plus just kids attitudes these days are not the same, and just a feeling of more like they entitled to things, instead of realizing it is a privledge to play. That is just not Ludlow though, that seems to be everywhere these days. So from lack of talent, kids leaving, kids just choosing to play other sports instead, and just attitudes of kids these days is a big part of the reason why things have gone down over the years.

 

However there is plenty of young talent right now in high school for Ludlow, and they are showing improvement. Not to mention their are two talented groups in 7th and 8th grade coming up for Ludlow who are use to winning too, so I think we will see baseball in Ludlow start to go back up and they started showing signs of that this year.

I hear ya.....only an upside for Villa....to see the larger program and how they do things, possible moral victories.......no argument here.....

Well I can't guarntee it won't happen, because you just never know. However I will say this I know most of these kids, and most of them definitely will be staying in Ludlow. There are two also that live very close by, who play on those teams but at the moment don't go to school there that may go to Ludlow for High School so they can stay with their teammates. Anything can happen before they actually go to high school, but it does look like most of the players on both groups will be going to Ludlow still. They already have a lot of younger players they start, and add these guys in the mix in a couple of years and Ludlow should be looking better again.

For a team that doesn't take their baseball serious, they certainly have a nice history of success.

I don't think you can go by the amount of games played. Some small schools do not need to play that many games, because they may not have the pitching to do so. I think you could go by how the program is ran and the amount of support the school gives the baseball program.

Seems like one of the schools taking some hits by posters in this thread just beat one of the schools being applauded.
