It wouldn't be a true top 16 or top 20 because it's being adjusted to get one team per region included.

 

If you are trying to "predict" the best team in the state, would Henry Clay or Lexington Catholic have a better shot at winning the state, either though neither is No. 1 in their region, than Perry Central or Paintsville? While their chances of getting there aren't as good, they have a much, much better chance of winning if they make it.

 

If you wanted a list of regional favorites that would be OK, but that wouldn't be a poll.

That's correct, a regional "favorite list" is not a poll. It's a prediction.

If Perry Central over Franklin County is the best win the 14th can claim out of the region, then I'd say it's relatively weak. Are there others that are more notable?

 

Leslie beat a very good Henderson Co. team and also a talented Madisonville team in the 5/3.

That "very good" Henderson County club is 6-8, and three of the wins have come against small schools ... hardly impressive for a school of 2,000-plus students. This is the least athletic/talented Henderson team in quite some time.

 

Madisonville is 11-4, but I wouldn't consider them to be a real quality team.

 

Leslie struck me as a decent club, but if they are among the elite in the 14th, I would say the "weak" argument holds some water.

Beating Henderson and Madisonville is pretty good for the 14th Region, even in an off-year for either team. Leslie and a few other teams can compete against good teams if they are playing well, but the 14th Region is still pretty weak overall but more balanced than usual. The same seems to be true for the 15th and the 13th, with the obvious exception of South Laurel. If not for South Laurel, seven or eight teams would have a decent shot at winning the 13th.

I think the 14th is typically one of the weaker regions in the state, and its even moreso this year.

You want to manipulate the poll by forcing one team per region to be included. That's not a poll, it's a list. You can't have a poll if you are basing it on geography instead of skill level.
