They were Talking a out something similar the other day. Said that athletes have unlimited resources to help them pass classes. Far beyond what regular students are able to use and if a student athlete fails then more often than not its their own doing.

 

I get what you're saying...but you can have a 2.5 throughout college without ever failing a class. I have many friends who loved those C's.

Treg Setty garnered some notice this week too, but not so much for what he's done as for what's happening to him, which is at least largely beyond his control.

 

 

However, in a Wednesday report by CBSSports.com's Jeff Goodman, it was made apparent the Salukis have no intent of releasing Setty from his scholarship at this time.

Note: Setty went before a committee Thursday afternoon to appeal the school's decision and said afterward in a Facebook message to the Ledger Independent, "It went good, man. I feel confident and hope it works.")

 

Don't misunderstand this article as saying schools should have no protection against players transferring all willy-nilly, or that we don't realize academics' importance. Education is, after all, why universities exist, no?

All we're saying is, the NCAA legislation in place is right now doing nothing but failing one student.

Update: Both Setty and Zollo have both been granted releases. I know Setty is visiting Ohio U. and Miami OH. this week. Zollo went on a visit to Iona.

Great news that Setty got his release and can now make contact/visits. Vinny has been able to have contacts from schools since he announced he was transfering. Now that school is out he has started to make visits. He was down South over the weekend.

I doubt it. If he is visiting Miami and Ohio, it appears he is looking to stay D1. The only clause in his release was that he had to stay close to home.

Yes, he is leaving for Italy on Monday. He has it narrowed now to two schools.

Zollo is transferring to Furman.

Very tough decision for him. He has a brother that lives in NY where Iona is.

 

When I talked to his mom last night, he wasn't sure which he would choose. I believe this is a great fit for V. Furman got a great player and outstanding young man on and off the court.

Setty should be committed in the next day or so. If I had a guess, I would say Miami Oh. but in recruiting you never know.
