July 2, 201610 yr I don't have poison ivy, but last weekend I took the dogs over to Draut park in St. Matthews. It's a wetlands park created as a habitat for mallards, and various other wetlands creatures. Anywho....the mosquitos and bugs were thicker than all get out and I have probably 50-75 mosquito bites on my arms, neck and face. I'm miserable because these were not your garden variety insects and the bites are huge, and incredibly itchy!
July 3, 201610 yr Haven't had poison ivy in years, thank goodness. Steroids and diabetes don't mix. Good info. Will keep this in mind. Head that as soon as you are exposed, you should wash area with Dawn's dish soap. It cuts through grease and it's what they use to wash animals after an oil spill.

It can mess with skin pigmentation, and for whatever reason, the skin on your face is particularly susceptible.
July 3, 201610 yr Went into the woods behind my house for some fire wood by fallen trees. Came out with some firewood and a good case of pioson ivy. First in 10years or so.
July 3, 201610 yr Spending a day in a well chlorinated pool will dry it up. Over the years I have been exposed to it so often that I think I am becoming immune, though I never was severely allergic anyway. Anyone that is severely allergic is probably going to need a steroid pack if they don't get it under control as soon as it appears. But for anyone else, just remember the key is just to dry it up. Ivy Rest is a product that works well, but what I have found to work best is fingernail polish, it takes oxygen away and dries up the oil. I go with clear so that it's not as visible.
