April 11, 201214 yr 106 pounds, caught on spinnerbait in the Ohio in 2004 down by Paducah. Broke the old record by 24 pounds. There's actually a caviar company up in Bellevue or Dayton (I can't recall which) that harvests all of their caviar from paddlefish. They contract out lakes to stock for their crop. Was there not a big dispute relatively recently over commercial fishing for them and harvesting the roe? Seems that it was a KDWR issue that was prevalent and a source of contention. I had no idea at the time of the size of the market for that caviar.

I heard something about people being busted for illegally harvesting them, but I don't recall any details. I'll have to look that up.
April 11, 201214 yr I was talking about this: Kentucky Couple Nailed For Illegally Harvesting Paddlefish | Field & Stream They were arrested and sentenced to 3 years probation and 100 hours community service along with seizure of the vehicles they used in the process for trafficking in and falsely labeling illegally harvested paddlefish. Big Fish Farms is the company out of Bellevue that LEGALLY produces paddlefish caviar.

April 16, 201214 yr Locals out of Ross, Kentucky have been netting them and harvesting the caviar out of the Ohio River for years, mostly during the winter. They may not be as rare as you think, simply hard to catch, because of their eating habits.
