March 30, 201214 yr How many innings? I understand the desire to have him start. I hope if they make that decision that he's durable enough to take it. I just doubt he can. 140-150.
March 30, 201214 yr Who says a closer has to throw in the mid 90's? Chalk that one up to preference I guess. The closer's that stand out to me are the ones that can bring the heat. Those that are in the Hall of Fame, what was there mph in there prime? Chapman signed a $30 million dollar contract. The way he's pitched this spring along with being our only left hander in the rotation. That decision should already been made. Bailey has had his chances. IMO he needs to quit being a prima donna and man up and give this a shot. Tell him to look at the back of Dennis Eckersley's baseball card. Bottom line, he hasn't earned a starting bid and if he wants to be on the Reds he can try to do whats best for the team.
March 30, 201214 yr According to MLB those runs were earned. It was ruled a FC, not an error. Chapman's line for the day. 5 IP 7 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7 K's. It went off his glove and made his throw to 2nd late. I'd consider it an error but that was based off the way Marty saw it when he called it.
March 30, 201214 yr Yep, that's 18 saves. He's proven he struggles to throw strikes in pressure situations at the big league level, but by all means continue to think that if you'd like. Why in the world do you keep dismissing Marshall, when he's clearly the most capable, prepared, and willing Red to close?

Why in the world do you keep dismissing Marshall, when he's clearly the most capable, prepared, and willing Red to close? I'm not dismissing Marshall. And if AC can't throw strikes I don't really care what his role is, it will be shortlived. However, you put up his numbers this spring. Seems like he's throwing them.
March 30, 201214 yr I'd say he has earned a chance to start at least. It's worth a shot to see how it goes.
March 30, 201214 yr I'd say he has earned a chance to start at least. It's worth a shot to see how it goes. From an outsider's opinion, the Reds would be foolish not to start him. I hope he stays in the 'pen.
March 30, 201214 yr I'll not belabor the point any longer. I hope I'm not able to say "I told you so" in July.
March 31, 201214 yr I think Chapman will begin the season as a starter. If / when he goes to the DL, it's very possible he comes back in the bullpen. Just a hunch.
